Wait a second, a trd sport comes with drum brakes? Now im definitely not getting one wtf? I didnt think anyone was still putting drums on thier vehicles, never mind the sport versions. Even the frontier has rear discs, looks like ill be waiting til 2017 to see what comes out.

BMW does something similar. They put led tail lights on the mid production refresh, and then go back to standard bulbs for the new model, which will then get led tail lights at the refresh.

Lets hope the refresh gets disc brakes also, and maybe the ability to have a double cab with a long bed and manual transmission. I was so excited about getting a tacoma this year, until I realized I cant get the config I want and that a 2016 sport model truck comes with drum brakes lol.

^As long as the Tacoma continues to get segment-best braking performance, rear discs won't appear. Most people have no idea how cutthroat the cost-reduction effort is at most carmakers: Come up with a way to save 50 cents per car and you get a fat bonus. Saving $5 per car is equal to a lifetime achievement award worthy of publication in SAE magazines. I bet the only reason the GoPro mount got on the windshield was because GoPro gave them to Toyota for free...

It's part of the cheapening and content-reduction that happens with every major redesign.

In a couple of years aftermarket LED tail lights will be available for less than $200 a pair. Or you could get LED bulbs from VLEDs.Com and convert now.

Or like normal people you could buy one off Amazon.Com for $80: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TYLOAK  On the other hand, if the light assembly also includes sensors for blind spot detection (like on the F150s), it can jack up the price considerably.

I'll be the first to admit that rear discs are easier (in most cases) to service than drums. Although some configurations I've seen over the years can be iffy in that area.

However, I fail to see the hoopla over not having discs. I mean it's not like the drums are inadequate. These aren't exactly sporty, racy, vehicles in need of excess binding power.

The braking proportions are way slanted to the front anyway, as they should be on such an in balanced weight vehicle. Discs in the rear would still be proportioned front heavy, and not really add much stopping 'power'.

ABS prevents lock up anyway. ABS off, if you can lock the tires, you have more than adequate brake, because now you are dependent on the tire grip to complete the stop.............

So, other than cool factor, and 'maybe' a service factor (every 50-70k, and only for DYI'rs) what's the beef about?

Not asking you Mr. OP, you're subject was lighting. Just asking the drum bangers over drums (see what I did there?)

Trust me, being a motorcycle rider, I understand that the front brakes are the most important and that rears dont really do all that much. My beef with it is that my previous 4 vehicles, an 86, 95, 06, and 14 all have had 4 wheel disc brakes. Now I'm looking at a 16 TRD sport and it has drum brakes in it? No matter what anyone says about it discs are better than drums. Drums work, no doubt about it, but the only reason they are used is to save costs. Id be fine if the lower models had drums, but TRD models should have discs.

So on the bright side..... the back bulbs are 7443's. I've been searching for suitable replacements and accompanying resistor/load. bought some ADM's and 1 of the 4 did not light up. They were on the cheap side. Thinking of going with VLED's. Most of the remarks on the others I have been looking at show that they are worthless. Got some VLED H9's inbound so we will see if that works in the projector headlights.

    And welcome to the forum!

BOOM! I've noticed there are A LOT of assholes on this site. They take away from the good. Thanks to the people/mods that want to keep this a "classy" site. Not saying yall/we cant have fun/cutup. But, why belittle people that have questions? I was a lurker on this site for a while until I posted. And, was apprehensive about doing so. Why do certain assholes feel the need to make others feel less, just because they know more than someone else? Isn't that what forums are for? Anyway, thanks to the people that help others/have helped me. You other condescending MF's, get a life! And yes, the ignore option is invaluable.

Does anyone have a picture of turn signal and tail light LED replacement? I want to get them but not sure how they'll look on the stock housing.

I've replaced my interior bulbs, turn signals, brake lights, and plate lights with LEDs. I am happy.m

With the specific LEDs I used, I DID NOT NEED ANY RESISTORS.

No hyper flash on the turns? Resistors?

Been wanting to do this but don't want another headache to deal with. Info would be appreciated!

No hyper flash and easy installs. Amber for front and regular white for brakes. They look red to me in the housing.

It depends on the bulb. Some have built in resisters. I went VLED's with resister and think highly of them. No issues whatsoever.
