Everytime we get a truck in with the bumper bolted straight to the frame a lot of times they do have a small amount of frame damage. People freak out when they hear it but its really not bad. Just make sure you pick a good shop that has a laser measuring system and rebuild it! :D

Ugh, I was just in your position in May.

I got hit by someone that crossed the center line and hit my ARB offset which shifted the frame on me. Initially my insurance company wanted to replace all of my damaged aftermarket pieces and pull the frame straight. I expressed to the shop that I didn't want a pulled frame and would rather it be totaled out.

The shop wrote up an estimate to reframe it which was over 10K which triggered the total. My 2013 had a salvage value of over 13K at the time in terms of a buyback, so be prepared to pay a chunk of change to get it back if you want to go that route.

As far as checking your frame, obviously a visual will show you what's up, but check the cab to bed gap and the gap between the rear bumper and bed on each side.

A new bolt here, a new bolt there, a new bolt everywhere.
I checked the cab to bed and it is straight on both sides. I also checked the rear bumper to bed and it as well looks even on both sides. The only damage that I could see is all frontal damage. What percentage did the insurance quote you on the buy back?

Weve actually already repaired a couple 2016 tacomas. But really keep it especially if you can see the repair process. Not as bad as a lot of people think the front should evem have a sectioning procedure. With a couple of my familys personal cars we even will just buy used air bags (never deployed) snd the. Just a new air bag module and send the module off for programming. Insurance wont use them because it opens the door for the next time people wreck they just sue.

If you installed all the aftermarket goodies.... and have the time you can def fix the truck back minus the frame work it may need. It's not bad at all just time consuming!!! Buy back for the 2 cars I've ever bought was about 25% of what payout was.....

Ok so give or take $15K is what I am probably looking to pay for the salvage title.

No not yet still waiting on a "special" adjuster they are having sent out who handles modified vehicles and repairs.
