Fast 2 questions, SR 4 cyl guys:

Is the 2.7 and 5 spd manual the same engine and trans from the 2nd gen 4 cyl / 5 spd?

Will the SR 4x4 fit 265/75 16 with no other mods?

And a bonus question, same type issues with the 4 cyl 2.7 as guys are having with the newer 6 cyl 3.5, or are those issues pretty much because of the new engine / transmission in the auto V6 trucks?

    Grassyass!

The 2.7 in the third gen is essentially the same as the 2.7 in the second gen but with vvt-i on the exhaust side as well as the intake side. From what I've noticed when comparing with my buddy's second gen 2.7 and manual is the gear ratios are the same or very similar.

I can't answer the other question personally lol.

I'll keep you all posted incase anyone is interested.

    None,

I think the engine is the same, I just traded a 2013 SR5 with the 2.7L. It was automatic. Everything under the hood on the 2017 looks the same. I feel the manual must also be the same, do the old school feel of shifting
between the gears. I have 265-70-R16 tires, Winter and Off Road tires.

I do love driving my 2017 SR with the manual 5spd,Over the 2013 SR5 Automatic

Ok, thanks. I'm reading through the thread and looking at the 3rd gen forum now.

I'm just about to pull the trigger on a 2017 SR 2.7, with convenience package (slider, CC, keyless entry, all weather floor mats), 4WD, 5spd; from San Francisco Toyota.

I'm kind of done with modifying vehicles - my current 4R is pretty heavily modded - and I kind of just want a basic manual transmission truck with no extra shit. Probably put on 265/75 16 Firestone Destination ATs and some tint and call it done.

I'll keep the thread updated on my decision. I stripped out the 4R tonight and am going down to SF in the morning, so we'll see how it goes...

I may or may not be selling, not sure yet. I'll still be around here though, bunch of great threads. Just won't be around as often

Technically, yes it is the same 2.7L from the second gen. The engine upgrades came for MY 2015. Not sure about the transmission, though.

lol I love my Tacoma but traveling with the wife and 2 kids I need more dry space. Coming home from Christmas the bed was packed to the gills and the one available back seat was the same. I ended up leaving a few things at my parents house because we didn't have room for it. We'll see what happens though, nothing set in stone. If I can't make the numbers work and make the trade worth it, i'll likely just buy a really nice cap for the bed and call it a day. I'm really not a fan of caps, to me if you need dry storage buy and SUV, but sometimes it's the best option. I'll be hitting my local dealers next weekend, see what each has to offer and go from there.
