I dont know if it is but it seems everyone strongly recommends the upgrade regardless and some have noticed a significant improvement. Its just a variable that I'm eliminating before moving on.

Prior to my install, Toyota verified the latest update on my ECU. They did the install, but I did the BD tune at their shop. Their master mech couldn't figure it out and I had to call BD and have their assistance updating my tuner. The original files from Magnuson were corrupt. BD tech support was very helpful during the install and my truck runs great, with zero issues for 5k.

Except that you did add mods - you have a boost sensor, fuel rail tap for pressure, AFR gauge as I recall. Sure they are just monitors - but any one can introduce a leak and perturb the system.

Again - it very well may be a problem with the tune - but I think some of you folks are too quick to blame the tuner when you haven't ruled out the other possibilities.

    And this.

All of those things you assume. Those things were added AFTER the issue was discovered. The issues occurred immediately after the installation was complete. Stock intake, stock filter. The only difference was the URD fuel pump. The URD fuel pump was installed a week prior to the supercharger and the truck ran just fine. Again, you are assuming things and making stretches to blame others for the issues when you were not there when things took place. Dead wrong as I stated before.

EDIT: And yes, this was a self install. I am an ASE master certified technician with 12 years of experience and another 10 years prior to that in the mobile electronics installation field.

Making stretches to blame others? Oh fer fucks sake

Well I'm sure you did everything perfectly in your install, and your methodology is superior - you are ASE certified after all. It must be the tuner.

    :bananadead:

No good deed goes unpunished. Carry on - I'm outta here. Happy New Year everyone.

EDIT - @loginfailed I just need to point this out:
So you did not refute my hypothesis, nor support your own.

I guess they don't teach differential diagnosis in ASE tech school.

OK now I am done. Good luck everyone!

Have you contacted BD tech support? :notsure: As stated earlier, my files from Magnuson were corrupted.

I'm NOT an ASE certified master tech, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However, I've spent 30 years in the aviation maintenance industry and have seen some of the best technicians make mistakes, including myself. :anonymous: It can happen.

The point here is to assist others, not to assign blame.

    To all those with issues:

Software is the easier fix and you may want to completely remove the BD tune, have Toyota update your ECU, then work with BD tech support to verify/reinstall the software in your ECU.

From there, you may want go over the entire installation again (step by step), to verify the installation is correct.

It's up to you guys, but consistently bashing BD, isn't going to get your truck fixed.

So, do you all recommend taking your truck to Toyota and ensuring the ECU is up to date before beginning the install? And any key pointers you would provide for me to share with install guy would be great.

I did. My dealer had issues with the BD install, so I installed that myself. I had to contact BD tech support, when I encountered the same issues that the Toyota tech did.

Anyone have issues with the bd tuner not even wanting to load? As in can even get to the tuning because it won't connect to the ecu?

Mine came with one of the files named correctly. It was supposed to be something like GTUMENU, but instead it was named GTUMMENU. I removed the extra M on the file on the SD card and it loaded fine after that.

I don't recall what my files said (oldtimer's), but after several attempts to load, the BD tech deleted everything and installed new files. From there, it worked exactly like the instructions stated.

Well after three weeks and 1800 miles of running the BD tune for the 2.85 pulley with the stock shift point options and clearing dozens of PO101/Trac off Alarms along with cleaning the MAF which was spotless along with disconnecting the battery twice I gave up and removed the BD tune went to Toyota and had them hook up the TIS laptop which either corrected or changed the Parameters to the TRD tune. My reasons for reverting were multiple most were drivability issues such as "random" high shift points mid-throttle hesitation or resistance such as when merging into highway traffic it just wasn't smooth in everyday driving. It was fast as heck if you mashed the pedal but the "stock" high shift points were alarming. I did load the 2.85 with the performance shifts before removing the BD for one day and it was awful. So $75 dollars later I am on the TRD SC tune, drivability home was uneventful and smooth. I will remain here for another three weeks and report back on what happens in this configuration.

My truck is running smooth too after having uninstalled the Bully Dog tune and having the dealer hook up to it. :D

    Happy New Year!

I have contacted Bully Dog on more than one occasion.

I make mistakes too. The only mistake I've made with this supercharger install was ordering a kit with the Bully Dog tuner.

How do you like the TRD exhaust. Is it very loud?

I like it and honestly sounds better with the S/C installed.

When my warranty is up, I'll add a 2.85, then maybe a CAI.

My experience with CAI's in a T4R and BMW were not impressive. Nothing but noise and no gains. However, when I finally installed a BMW performance CAI, I was happy with the sound and very slight performance.

    Some stuff...
Been out of the country since we last talked in Nov, but glad that you got everything worked out @TacoCat (was gonna text you and see how it was going).

Might be weighing in on this thread late, but I'm one of those with the BD tune who hasn't had any issues (running aFe stage 2 & TRD exhaust).
