Yeah sorry I was just shocked and that's the first thing that would have come out of my mouth, word for word, if I saw that in person.

Could probably have a welder put a plate back on there.

That's probably the way I'll go, just so I don't have to look at it.

Folks - I just adjusted my coilovers for the first time using Icon's spanner wrench. It got the job done but I was less than impressed regarding the quality of the tool itself - I kept worrying I was going to break it before finishing and end up with a serious taco lean.

For those of you who use a punch to make adjustments, what size/model of punch do you use? I've seen folks mention a 5/16th and also a 5/8ths, and from some other posts the following el-cheapo ones from Harbor Freight seem to do the trick. Any thoughts?

I cranked pretty hard with full body weight on the icon tool and never had a concern for it. I always use the straight end and the rounded end as a handle. Also some wd 40 on the threads will reduce the friction and allow it to move more easily.

Same method here...and I was careful each time to make sure I was torquing only along the wide-axis of the tool as well...but still experienced some bending. Like I said, it got the job done (and I don't think I'll ever work it as hard again, as I was cranking up my current 650 lb springs to the max allowable preload). But I can see a time in the future when I might be adjusting heavier springs and I'd like to have a backup if it gives out on me.

The good news is that I think for the time being I was able to bring the front end back up enough to compensate for the newly added weight of skids+bumper+winch and stop the small amount I rubbing I'd been having since the install of all those.

I use a t handle allen wrench. Works perfect! I've had coilovers on cars and I've never liked the wrenches they come with.

Are you guys lifting the front end off of its wheels before adjusting?

Affirmative. In addition to giving you more room to work between the fender and the tire, it makes it a lot easier to turn if you're adding preload.

Ok I just ask because I don't remember it being that hard to where I would worry about the tool breaking. Sprayed some wd40 on mine and let it soak in a bit first also.

Yep....that definitely wouldn't have hurt. It wasn't like it was super-hard to turn the coilover, it's just that I felt like the Icon wrench was a little puny for the amount of force required.

You can get about 2.75" after settling. The same with BP-51's.
And that 2.75" does a world of good when off-roading.
I ended up with about 3.75" increased clearance with the 33" tire upgrade.
Try going true off-roaring in various conditions and you'll see the limitations of stock height pretty quickly.
I've gone back over previously driven trails and my truck can clear most obstacles now without dragging.IMG_1068.jpg

For you guys with 700lb springs..... How much preload can be put on them vs the 650s? How high are you cranking for the 2.75" of recommended lift?

Anyone had issues with the ICON AAL in regards to towing or sagging with a camper shell/weight in the back. Debating between sticking with a total ICON kit and using their AAL vs the OME Dakar. Thanks

I had this same question (except it was gear and shell, no towing) and the consensus from research was Dakar for sure.

That's the overall conclusion I've reached as well, after reading many different threads. Was hoping someone with first hand knowledge could chime in.

Had AAL, put RTT on and it sagged immediately. Ended up with dakars plus the extra leaf. Dakars alone are probably more than enough.

Definitely worth it, throw in some extended brake lines and carrier bearing drop while you're at it.

Are extended brake lines needed for sure? I would think so. The 2.75" or so lift from the dakars plus extension from full flex probably would bind the stock brake lines, no?

Will be different for every truck depending on front weight. I went from saggy 2 inches of thread on 650s to around half an inch of preload on 700s. Keep in mind though that 700s are an inch longer so can only be preloaded to 1 inch of thread max.
