Because they are not 2x6s....it's like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.

    K

There's lots of ways to approach it

The carbon footprint of the steel manufacturing is higher than using a 2nd growth tree which is a renewable product and contributes to clean air and carbon sequester during its growth cycle , and logs for 2x4's are the same ones they cut 2x6's out of for the most part but like I said , people look at it from different angles

I agree about the carbon foot print. They are already built and are going to continue to be used by places like China, Japan,U.S. and (gasp) Canada to ship goods. It's just repurposing. Not to mention they are water tight so really no roof is needed. They are much better suited for warmer climates though. In Europe they are making high rises out of them, so they must save money some how. Not that money is the total reason to try to do something good for Mother Earth. Plus you can use recycled metal studs...and not dimensional lumber.

Oh wow, you bought one. I remember you asking me what I paid and you were toying around with the idea. That was a couple years ago though. Once I put shelves in mine, it was all the difference. Good job sir! ...helping the environment and storing crap you will probably forget where the hell you put.

Wow! That's in better shape than mine. Most of mine is buried though. Now we need to come up with a good way of easily mounting things to the inside. My thought was 2x4 strips 16 oc running horizontally. What's your thoughts?

This one is a 1 tripper

I'm considering through bolting some interior studs and sheeting the inside walls with plywood

Yeah I think they are 8' 6" or something like that , it's a standard dimension for width and height

I have a four bar closing system for the doors which I turned into a two bar...I see you only have three...I like that way better. I might buy another container, one for my left over rough cut and building lumber, but I want to put a gambrel roof on it and paint it to look like a barn, plus I would have storage above.

I through bolted interior studs and made lots of hanging wall storage in mine. Just sikaflex the bolts when you seat them and they'll be watertight for life.

I might come up with a roof overhang that I could bolt on through the lifting holes on the corners

Lol....I put big screws in mine. Like they use for leveling scaffold. So if mine settles or shifts I could still level my deck. That area is pretty much the strongest part.

I think 4"x4" quarter inch steel plates would work with nuts and bolts or welding some sort of pipe in the hole as a sleeve...then go from there...like scaffold is.

Any of you guys ever move the shipping containers or did you just plop them down in one spot forever? I've toyed with the idea of picking up an 8'x20' when we move, just not sure if the fee to move it makes that an unrealistic idea.
