Transmission Covered by Warranty?

Yet you're telling the OP to go to another dealer to see if they will try to do the repair. Toyota is aware his truck is lifted and they, not the dealer denied this claim. That's how it works dealers diagnose a vehicle and submit the findings to Toyota to see if they are covered, if not and they do it anyways then they eat the cost. I know some dealers push things through and Toyota doesn't catch it but they can have a rep come out to verify the repair is needed. Chances are with a transmission possibly needing to be replaced they are gonna send someone out and not just blindly approve the large bill. All of this is moot considering Toyota has his truck documented as lifted and denied, he can go to all the cool dealers he wants and it won't do shit. If a dealer does anything it'd be on their own dime. I don't know any dealers that are that cool.

I'm sure warranty has noted everything, it'd be dumb in their part if they didn't.

I screwed up, I can't really blame anyone. Unfortunately, if you stand in there behalf I'd be blaming it on anything I could. About the "act" it's probably right they would have to prove it caused the damage. But then again they can argue to prove the tires didn't cause any damage.

Bottom line, I'll be looking into trading for a tundra possibly a newer 16+ Tacoma. I will not take them to court, simply because in the long event that I do happen to win the case have to pay lawyer fees and other expenses which will still be out of my pocket in the end.


Thanks for all the support guys, hope you guys learned something out of this thread, I sure did! I will not get any extended warranties on something I plan to modify(I didn't have that in mind when I purchased this one).

 

Now I'm not saying take them to court but if you did they couldn't prove your mods made the converter fail then they would have to cover the repair and any related costs including lawyer fees. But again they have very deep pockets and could tie this up in court for a long time.

 

As soon as I said well how can you prove the tires was the problem in the transmission failing? He quickly argued "well how can you prove the tires weren't the problem" the guy was obvious very rude as you can imagine we went at it for about 30 minutes.

 

My point was the Beards' comment about the misinformation of the MWA.
Dealers don't document modifications and Toyota does not pre-authorize warranty repair. Some 3rd party warranties require pre-authorization. I can go to a dealer right now and have them pull my vin and nowhere will there be a list of modifications done to my truck, or even the fact one dealer denied warranty repair. Toyota does often require the failed parts with warranty claims, though. I'm going in for my 3rd steering rack because of big ass tires and lift. They send in failed rack and all is good, nobody mentions any modifications and Toyota has no reason to ask as everything was done just as if it was stock. Dealer is fully aware of MWA and how it works and has no concern over getting warranty pay.

 

Ok well there you go OP this guy knows the ins and outs of the Toyota warranty game. Just put your truck back to stock and take it to another dealer.... Toyota will never know.

Fox 2.5 stocks, tc uca, maxtrac spindle, 2.0 fox rears. Clazzio leather seats. Palfrey front and rear bumpers. Roof bar. Ditch leds pods. Led pods for front bumper. Raptor grill.

Oh absolutely take anything and everything off you can. Trade for stock parts plus cash if you have to. On a trade in you won't get anything for all those parts. Also PM I may be interested in taking some things off your hands.

 

Dude, if it's a Toyota extended warranty, just try another dealer before anything. all they can do is say no! The dude at toyota may have just laughed it off and left it at that.
I would think you would have no problem selling the truck with the parts on it. Even if you are set on trading I wouldn't change anything without gathering some figures first. Dealer databases aren't as intricate as some may believe.

Obviously I'm not settling. I'll be looking at more dealers. But they offered a SR5 crew cab Tundra for 38k? Not sure how that sounds.

 

You will never get decent $ from that dealer. They are aware of the tranny issue and will factor that in when giving you a #.
My last 2 vehicles I have traded them.in when they needed work done that I didn't feel like paying for. I would not do that to a person in a private sale but I'm OK trading. But you won't get good $ if they know about the impending repairs needed....

 

Can you find a low mileage tranny at a salvage yard or have someone rebuild it?

 

Have you checked the u-joints, my tranny felt like it was broken and turned out the one close to the differential was bad now it shifts fine

 

Its not uncommon for master techs to call out a torque converter problem even when its not the problem .
Have seen this literally hundreds of times if not thousands of times on this forum .
Did he have the Tech stream scanner connected to the truck when he claimed the converter was bad ?
Did he rule out the SLU solenoid ?
This is very very common among dealerships . Rather than properly diagnosing the issue , simply claim the converter is bad and call it a day .
Absolutely , the worst diagnostic procedures and zero verification of an actual true diagnostic .
The dealer could at very minimum prove to you that they did their due diligence by performing a proper diagnostic .
A road test by a master tech is " NOT " the proper procedure for diagnosing a converter shudder . Master tech goes for a test drive and claims the converter shudders , but did he properly diagnose the issue or jump the gun ?
There is a diagnostic tree to follow when diagnosing a converter issue .
Maybe I am jumping the gun here , but I call " BULLSHIT " .
Keep in mind that dealerships dont fix transmissions , they simply install a new one . They jump to conclusions because they cant fix them !
It pisses me off when I read stuff like this cuz I have seen soooo many members pay out of pocket for incorrectly diagnosed issues .
Make the dealer properly prove you have a converter issue
I believe the OP has some questions to ask if he does a little research. I am willing to bet there is nothing wrong with your converter .

I hope you don't get screwed too much trying to sell your truck. I sincerely hope you consider trying to fix it before parting ways, you will probably lose out on a lot of $$$. But its understandable if you don't have time to fiddle with it.
