1GR's aren't cheap! I thought that my 2TR was an expensive engine.

I use that website to find out where they have a car/part I'm looking for and then call them to see their price on it. Sometimes (but not always) they're cheaper or you can talk them down.

It would actually be cheaper to swap in a 2UZ out of a Tundra, odd.

If I ever blow my engine I'll probably do a 3.4 swap, rather than replace the 2TR, 2.7 I have now.

You're right, and Toyota engines are pretty strong so they demand a fairly large chunk of change!

What's wrong with the engine you have?

im not fully sure i think something to do with the push rod bearings or something
the story is i bought a 2001 4cyl the frame is going fast it was decent when i bought it but after a year of owning it broke in a few sports so so the frame is going fast now plus i want to upgrade to a v6 double cab just to have the back seat for the kids and such
my father was working in Labrador for the summer at a fish camp well he was in goosebay a buddy of his showed him the 2007 double cab v6 trd sport the owner was selling because the engine started thudding and he just didn't want to deal with it so he sold it to my dad for very cheap told him your gonna need a new engine , so my father got it home to his place in Nova Scotia took it in somewhere down there i think a friends place and and had a guy look at it and told him the engine has to go said it would be cheaper to replace it then to rebuild it

If you're not dependent on the truck as of now it might be worth taking the engine somewhere and seeing if they can give you a rough guess on a rebuild. Somewhere like Nova, or Armstrong. When it comes to engines, it's only an educated gestimate at what's wrong, you really only know when you get it apart.

By the sounds of it though, depending on what your father got the truck for, its worth putting a new engine in it!

You could get a 2JZ-GTE from Japan for roughly 2400 bucks.... if that peaks your interest! ;)

Is there any way you could get a video of the sound? I could show it to Big Bad Barry and see what he thinks!

    picked it up for 700
that would have to depend on shipping and if new or not
wouldn't be for a while as I'm in Oromocto and its in Lawrencetown , But when i listened to hard to explain but its like thud crank (like its trying to catch something) and sounds from the lower part of the engine not 100% sure

    That's a steal!! 700 bucks?!! I would in a heart beat.

2JZ's are out of Supras, it wouldn't be a direct bolt up to your truck. I was kind of kidding with that one!

Lawrence town in the valley or towards eastern shore?

My IS (non turbo 2JZ) spanks my truck on the road anyday.... Mainly because the truck is a 4 banger turning 33's (and quite possibly 35's in the spring heheheheheh), (and no, I don't plan on regearing yet. There are other plans in the works)

Maybe one day when you're back in Lawrence town we can meet up. I'd like to have a listen.

i know driving my 4banger from new brunswick to scotia i cant make it all the way in one tank i always have to fill up at the Ultramar just before the toll
coming back i make it just to the nova scotia new brunswick border

i hope with the 6 i can make it from oromocto to cole harbour

I normally get just over 500k on a tank in my truck, it's in its prime at 70-80k, so if I have the option over long distances I take the back roads!

You'll have to ask Duncan @Canoehead what he gets per tank!

    Or maybe Garth @Fahrenheit?

Every other v6 taco I can think of is on 35's
