I think my phone might be broken.

    Problem
-From simply holding my phone and moving it around the screen flashes on and off.
-Pressing the home button alone makes it do a screen shot.
-Sometimes it will just turn off then attempt to turn it self back off.

I didn't drop it or anything. Any ideas? Corrupt software?

did you try just hooking it to itunes and doing a full restore. When my itouch starts acting goofy I just do that and it always seems to bounce back.

Probably needs a full reset. Hook up to iTunes and restore back to factory settings. Make sure You have your iPhone backed up. I dont know if restoring will delete EVERYTHING.

    No mods whatsoever!
Every so often, mine will act up. The only success I've had was to shut it off, remove the SIM card, and put it back in. If that doesn't work, I would try the aforementioned I Tunes theory. FYI, I haven't jail-breaked mine either.

Sounds like the button on the top of the phone across from the headphone jack is busted. If it's still under warranty (purchased less than a year ago), take it into the apple store for a free replacement. Don't forget to make an appointment at the genius bar.

I've had my 1st gen iPhone for 3 years and it has had it's fair share of being dropped. I still have it but I got a 3GS.

Nick if you dropped your phone like even the slighest drop, you could have hit a sweet spot on it causing malfunction

I've dropped mine multiple times. I'm posting on it right now. Thank gosh it was on softer ground but still. I would take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple store

    Old thread... similar problem.

Wife's iPhone 3GS was having issues. We synced it to the computer at the house (including backup) and took it to the Genius Bar. It was some sort of firmware problem, so they restored it. That wiped everything off...

No big deal, right? It was backed up on our computer.

Well we've been able to add back all of the apps and music and such, but her contact list is completely gone. I've tried restoring from backup, but it's not showing a backup available from before we took the damn thing in to the Apple store.

    Any help is appreciated.
