I had mine installed at Cap World in Orlando a year ago and have never had an issue. Sounds like you may only need a small tweak, but I can vouch for the overall reliability of the pop&lock.

So now just so I understand, if you manually unlock the tailgate and then trigger the lock/unlock on the remote the tailgate will be out of sequence with the locks? The Pop n Lock doesn't actually "lock " and "unlock " it just blindly moves the mechanism?

No, it locks when you hit lock and unlocks when you hit unlock even if you unlocked or locked it manually.

You can also power lock the truck with the tailgate open. You can still close the tailgate and it will already be locked when you do so.

I went up on the passenger side, through here-

I like the location because it's somewhat protected between the body and the frame. Finished it off with some silicone.-

If you go up through there it puts you about here in the back seat of the double cab-

There's a small channel or sunken portion of the body that is perfect for running the wire to the trim. You can tie into the back passenger door wiring or run it along the floor with the rest of the wiring to the passenger side kick panel.

Easy, install the pop n lock. Or wheel a tv out to the garage/driveway and watch the game while installing. Just keep the beers to a minimum.

I'm intending to do this mod as well, but have read multiple places that that the locking sound is pretty loud. Possibly due to the large hollow space where the tailgate lock is housed. Has anyone found a way to dampen the sound? I was going to try to surround the lock mechanism with some sound attenuating foam sandwiched between the metal tailgate and the plastic bed liner pieces.

Once you sandwich it, the squished part won't do much. You want to go against the bed skin and against the inside of the skeleton top.

I don't think it's terribly loud. But if you wanted to deaden the sound, @axisofoil is probably right, try putting the material on the inside of the tailgate walls first before squishing anything against the actuator.

EDIT: If you just trigger the actuator without connecting it to the lock (like holding it in your hand), you will see it's not loud. I think the noise comes from it pushing the lock on the tailgate into position. I rarely notice mine though.

Out of curiosity why are you so concerned about the sound? It's not that much louder than the door locking sound. The sound gives me the piece of mind knowing the tailgate is locked cuz otherwise I'd probably go back there lifting the tailgate handle to make sure it was locked. Adding dampening material, if not done right, can introduce more problems to an area with moving parts.

When I back into my driveway, by tailgate is about 3 ft from my roommate's window. I will try it without any dampening first and see.

I've read all 417 replies on this thread, and have a question:

Someone mentioned the power tailgate was a dealer option in the southeast... Does anyone know how the dealer wired the tailgate? Are we possibly missing some plug and play option that wouldn't be tapping into wiring and cutting rubber grommets?

I'm in the midwest but will be in driving to Georgia next month and may opt for a dealer install.

    Thoughts?

I don't think it is PnP as I think there would be a Pre wire in the tailgate somewhere but there isn't. As far as the dealer option, it depends on if it's worth your time to save the money and install it yourself. You can cobble some parts together and build it really inexpensively or buy a kit like the Pop N Lock which is what I did. The kit is still cheaper than the dealer installed one but it's a matter of if you want to spend the time installing it as well as the dealer one would be under warranty.

I didn't cut any rubber grommets on my install. I went through an existing hole under the passenger side.

Does anyone know if the 2017's are pre-wired?
