    Because on the 3rd gen you have to get under the truck and remove the filter (with a special tool no less) and the filter is just the paper medium...not a spin off.
    Big pain in the ass changing oil on the 3rd gen compared to 2nd gen. Skid plate in the way as well...
    On my 2nd gen I used to flick the fumoto then go up top and spin off the filter, change it, close valve, fill...done! took 10 minutes and never spilled a drop... that ain't gonna happen on the 3rd gen

    It has a nipple to add a drain hose when changing oil, I know the filter will be a pain to have to take skid off everytime!

    No special tool was needed when I did mine. I'm not sure why they sell a special tool because my old filter wrench fit right on the cap thing that covers the paper filter. I was kind of surprised when I tried it after all the complaints about changing oil here. I thought it was simple and painless.

    You could get an aftermarket skid with an access panel.

    Does anyone know witch valve to order for a 2017 Tacoma? The website goes up to 2016 and states there is a 4.0 motor.

    Simple & painless is taking it into the dealer and gorge yourself on free cookies while they change the oil/filter. And don't forget to tell them NOT TO WASH your truck.

    Our Lexus ES350 has the same oil filter canister setup as the new Tacos (same replacement part #s). It has a Fumoto valve and while it is draining, I drain the canister and replace the filter. I don't see it as a PIA; I actually prefer removing the OF from below if it is set up not to drain all over the block. I can see having to deal with the skid plate being a PIA but the oil valve is still helpful. BTW, I have an EZValve on my truck; the ID is 1mm wider than the Fumoto and oil flows out quicker - I've timed it.

    Same as everybody else...
    Changed the oil in my 09 Prerunner today, I put a Fumoto valve on when I bought her in 2015. I DIY most of my oil changes and have no issues with it, my only gripe is that it takes a bit longer to drain. I don't drive hard core off road, just farm and gravel roads when I'm off pavement.

    I have the trd pro I can access the oil drain plug if I order the fomoto valve from behind the skid plate and hook up the hose in the drain hole of my skid plate. I have an access panel for my filter. No need for removing skid.

    Workin' on it....
    For those who have Fumoto's installed, did you just use a socket and a torque wrench on the red circled area to torque the valve to 30 ft lbs as per the torque value on the regular drain plug?

    Off topic but...
    So I've seen this and I just searched it but I'm not sure why you say to not let them wash the truck. Is it because they do an terrible job? Or f stuff up? Just curious.

    I got the Fumoto valve with the nipple for a hose. Makes changing the 0W-20 much easier. 0W-20 goes everywhere once you drop the plug. Literally everywhere. Fumoto valve aids with that since you have a hose running down into the pan.
