That is how they assign fault here in an accident. The at fault driver gets a ticket for something. I got rear ended 2 or 3 years ago and the other guy got a too fast for conditions ticket.

    Same as everybody else...
I get it, hell I named my truck after a favorite uncle and I obsess over that truck.I'd be pissed too if my truck was in an accident, hell I park my truck as far away from other cars as I can so it won't get door dinged and my trucks not nearly as nice as yours. I hope you make out okay with the insurance and that you can recover some of those nice AM goodies. You'll find another Tacoma and start the process all over again. Happy New Year to ya.

Typically no unless you had the truck appraised to cover those add ons. I almost lost my HAM radio because I mounted it under the driver seat and it got towed to the yard and they did not allow any tools before I could pull it out. Luckily while it was at the collision place I was able to pull the radio out.

It has been my experience no and I had 2 trucks totaled (no my fault either time) and I did not get enough to get have similar truck.

Is it paid off? If no the financing company gets their money first. You get what's left.

The first time it was the other guy's insurance Mercury I had an 04 Colorado that KBB listed at 10k they gave me 8k. Then I went through my insurance American Family on the 05 Frontier, replacement to the Colorado, they gave me 13k. Which I was fortunate enough to used to get my Tacoma, it was a base model with 178k miles from a dealership and they paid the taxes.

I understand the reliability but any truck well maintained will last so I have a problem with the "Toyota" inflation that is out there, 20k on a 10 year old truck just does not work for me.

Another question is, how stupid would it be to get a tacoma with a 150 + thousand miles?

Not at all if it's been well maintained, if you can check the service records for things like the frame recall...

I was an policy consultant for State Farm for a few years, so here's the deal....

Insurance policies vary state by state, BUT typically all carry similar coverage when it comes to things like this.

In terms of the value, the NADA clean retail value is what you should base your payout estimate on. Secondly, your aftermarket mods will carry an additional value, so have that documentation handy and ready to submit when speaking with the claims dept. Since your family's body shop is a "select service" shop with SF, the claim will probably be processed through them, in terms of actually estimating if it's a total loss or not.

In terms of the tires, I would not count on being reimbursed for the upgrade. Insurance companies typically see tires as maintenance items. Anything not permanently attached to the vehicle will not be paid for (personal property like clothes, phones, etc.)

I'll echo what others have said about the fact that you're a lucky man. I seen some pretty terrible things in my time. Also, your story feeds into the reasons we all drive such great/safe vehicles.

Let me know if you have any other questions! Or shoot me a PM!

Very, very informative thank you for typing this. I just looked up the NADA clean retail value and it's 19,000! That's insane, am I seriously looking at getting that much?

Yes, if it's totaled (if the repair estimate is 70-80% of the value). Plus, the actual cash value of your aftermarket mods (if your state's insurance policy carries the typical State Farm coverages).

There's a reason State Farm is so huge. They do a good job with claims about 95% of the time.
