The threads on the post of the nut that holds the yoke on the propeller shaft are messed up, and I need to re-thread them. Problem is....NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE DIAMETER AND PITCH IS. Could one of you guys help me out? Im kind of dead in the water with my truck having the driveshaft out of it, and need my truck. Here's a picture I stole of the threads I am talking about....Its on a 2008 DCSB btw.

I do not know the size or pitch. If you have the nut take it to an Ace and find a bolt to fit it? Unless the nut is also trash/gone.

Measure it with a caliper and thread gauge...

Well somebody got a little hammer happy there...

Take the nut to a fastener distributor and get them to match it to a bolt.

Found that the 5/8-18 was pretty much an exact match, so I bought the threading die. Funny cause I would have thought that it was metric...

(I was hitting a socket with the hammer lol)

It should be metric. I hope it's close enough to work or...:annoyed:

That's me!:D When in doubt, grab the BFH.

To be fair to myself, that pic makes it look much worse than it was and that was actually when I was trying to get the yoke off. Mainly from sockets that I had to stack on there to give the puller something to ride on. Ended up letting it sit overnight with Marvel Mystery Oil soaking down the splines. Came right off the next morning.

OP, glad you found a solution, but I agree it "should" be metric. Of course Dana/Spicer is originally an American company, so who knows. OEM part number for the nut should be: 90080-17083

It is undoubtedly metric and based on your determination that a 5/8-18 is close I would speculate that it is a metric M16x1.5.

    16 mm = 0.6299" (16 / 25.4, 5/8 = 0.625") and the 1.5 mm pitch is close to 17 tpi (25.4 / 1.5 = 16.9333...).

Running a 5/8-18 die down on that is going to make a pretty crappy thread--'twas me I'd get a M16x1.5 die or thread chaser, and a new 10.8 or 12.9 grade nut--but I'm anal about things like that...

I agree with cliffyk. I would not chase those threads with a non-metric die unless I was sure.

Yeah I too bet it's metric.

I looked into the drive shaft bolts, thought they were 7/16... Wrong. They are M11 x 1.0, very uncommon.

    7/16 = 11.1125 mm... Very close!

Being a spicer part, it is indeed 5/8"-18NF

Here is a the spicer part breakdown from the front shaft off some configuration of a 2nd gen tacoma - spicer part number 10-74-101 is the nut.

You are 100% correct with it being 5/8x18. Spicer is an American company and they use standard thread. Plus I checked it when I pulled my support bearing off, and it was a 5/8 18 thread pitch.

I actually had originally ordered a M16x1.5 threading die, and it wouldn't fit at all. So I returned it and found the 5/8-18 was an exact fit.

I took the nut to fastenal and ran it all the way down on a 5/8-18 bolt with no problems, so I thought I would give it a shot! And once the die passed the messed up part, it threaded on smooth as glass. I'd be curious to see what the comparison of an M16x1.25 and an M16x1.00 to 5/8-18 would be. It is definately NOT M16x1.50. Tried that with the nut and it wouldn't even thread half way down a bolt.

It may well be Imperial as suggested, however measuring it with

I replaced my center bearing today. Had two clean the threads. 5/8/18 IS what my shaft threads are. Nut seated down to 135 lb ft, then backed off and torqued ~55 lb ft, and staked the nut. My yoke is marked Spicer.
