When I went to school at Cornell I had a teacher talk about genocide and how bad it was. She asked if anything good comes from genocide and mass murder everyone side no, but not me I raised my hand and said it has its perks. Such as that 1,000,000 people won't turn into 4,000,000 then 12,000,000 20 years down the road. And famine and other things wouldn't be as common. She thought I was a monster, I laughed and said hey it's not happening to me. I said you asked if there was any benefit I stated some, doesn't mean I want it to happen.

I don't think he's saying climate change isn't important. He's saying that over population contributes to a lot of the problems in the world today. I live on an island we would see climate change faster then anyone so I worry.

If you're talking about sea level rise that's gonna occur on all coastlines at the same rate

Good grief. Programs and faculty varied, I can certainly imagine your experience occurring, but it wasn't mine (and I worked there as staff for a few years too). Though that was also 25 years ago, so things may have changed.

Geologically that area is a the definition of climate change. Cornell overlooks a lake dug out by three glacial periods. Surrounded by gorges cut into sedimentary rock laid down at the bottom of a tropical ocean tens of millions of years ago (and filled with fossils). Heck, there's a huge salt mine just a few miles north that excavates salt from the bedrock deep under the lake.

But how close is mainland Canada. Our nearest body of land with quite a bit of area is over 2,000 miles away.

A bigger island. Vancouver Island is 3x bigger than the biggest Hawaiian island. Hawaii has a larger percentage of coastline vs size of the island, so any loss of coast is more significant, especially on the smaller and lower lying islands towards the northern part of the state. I don't think you can really deny that climate change is happening, the big disagreements I see is over why (natural vs manmade)

Not sure how its all that relevant because its a global phenomenon but I'm gonna bail on this convo because it usually turns into a shitshow , akin to evolution vs creationism

Thank you for this. The natural vs man made is an argument that will go on forever. Personally I think it's a mixture of both. The earth's temp does fluctuate naturally but we aren't helping by speeding that process up.
