In CA, the Tacoma warranty manual states 7 years/70K warranty that includes the air pump and valves.

What's weird is they said I have a p2440 and a p2441 not a p2442 so does that mean I need a new pump and the air valve switch? On a cold start the air pump makes a low pitch hum for 30 seconds and shuts off. After Toyota diagnosed it today, while driving my truck almost stalled out sounded like I was only firing two cylinders with one injector stuck open and the other closed. Should have never took it in got charged $120 just to run some codes and now my truck runs like crap.

Have someone start the truck while you look and hear for the pump. If it's working, then that leaves the valves. You can take out the pump, open it up and inspect the fins as well.

Add me to the list of 2012 Tacomas with the secondary air injection system and stuck valve issues. Dealer quoted me $2300! They want to replace the valave assembly, gaskets, and pump. Called customer care and Toyota is willing to pay half.

Glad to hear they are at least gonna cover half instead of denying you anything.

Would you recommend people do this preemptively even if they have not had this issue to avoid a possible 2k repair? I purchased my '13 used from a Honda dealership and I also got a third party extended warranty that lasts the life of the loan (5 yrs remaining). If I did this, do you think they could they deny coverage under the extended warranty if it did break down even after the filter replacement (ie. pump failure)?

You could buy the part for $450 and install it yourself or get a shop to just charge you by the hour for install.

I'm a new member to the P2442 code club as of yesterday. Left the gym and the truck had no power, looked down and the check engine light was on as well as the traction control light. Ran by Autozone and had them scan the OBD and there it was...... the dreaded P2442 code. I took it by the dealer this morning and sure enough they say both valves are gone as well as the air pump. Estimate was $1,798. This is a 2012 model as seems to be the norm with this failure. But with only 35K miles. I told them this was ridiculous for this to happen on this model with this low of a mileage. The service rep said her hands were tied. I talked to the Service manager as well as the GM. Toyota Care was closed due to the holiday. I was sure to mention how I had purchased 10+ new Toyota's in my life as well as 2 new Lexus's. And that many of them had come from this dealership and that they currently do all my maintenance work even on my wife 2015 Lexus RC350. They told me to call Toyota Care tomorrow and plead my case and they would see what they could do.
    Fingers crossed.

I realize every dealership is different, but the Fred Anderson Toyota of Raleigh covered everything involved 100%. The tech I worked with fully understood the entire problem, and had zero issue with any and all warranty issues. He said and I quote "This is a Toyota issue". If I were you guys, I would fight harder, make more phone calls, or anything else to get Toyota to pay in full. This will most likely go to a full recall.

Who do we call? Does anyone have a number of someone at Toyota care who has been helpful or at least admitted fault? I will start calling to get this taken to a full recall. Thanks

I heard back from the service manager at about 6:00 pm this evening. Said he was able to get in touch with his district Toyota rep. earlier today. He said not to worry everything would be replaced at no charge. No parts no labor. He would get the parts on order and that they would be in touch with me before weeks end to set up a time to bring the truck in. He didn't say under what warranty it would be covered. Just that it would be covered at no charge.

That's good to hear that Toyota may be starting to take responsibility for this problem. I wish they would do come up with a better solution than just putting the same parts back on though.

I really need to check mine out because my 2012 has 63,000 miles and we all know what that means...

Would it be possible to get that Toyota rep's number or email address so maybe some of us out here in California can get their trucks fixed.

I do not have the Toyota rep's number or email address that he talked to. Here is the number the Service Manager gave me yesterday to call. It may or may not be the same person. Hope it helps. 1-800-331-4331

That's such a sham! I'm really disgusted with Toyota over this, puts the extreme reliability of the Tacoma into jeopardy over a non-essential part that they will not stand behind.

My dads 2010 Tundra just had the issue last week, limp mode with several lights including a flashing 4LO light. I knew right away it was the secondary pump issue. He lucked out because Toyota covered the 2007-2010 Tundra's for 10 years, 150K. Dealer didn't give any gripe and did the work free of charge. Same parts your listing, pump/valve assembly/gaskets and a tube. When it first happened we were able to reset it by disconnecting the battery but it went back into limp mode two mornings later.

On my 13' tacoma I've debated doing the filter mod, however, i'm glad I waited becuase I was going to do my dads at the same time and then his pump sh*t the bed. Dealer wouldn't have done the free warranty work for him if it was tampered with.

I would recommend replacing the foam piece with an external filter as it would prevent the pump from getting damaged with the foam if it does come apart. With warranty, it's always difficult to determine what they will want to cover and most likely looking for any excuse to deny it. If you ever get the fault codes, you can always re-install your foam filter before taking in for warranty.
