We took our first trip since learning of the secondary air injection system issue with my truck. The Tacoma is pending repair on Monday (if the parts arrive). Every Toyota that I saw on the road made me feel like a fool that had been cheated on.

This is my third Toyota and I considered their products to be superior. Now I just feel used and lost.

How do I get past this?

Buy a Jeep. You'll know that breaking crap is normal and you won't grief about it.

This is my FIRST Toyota, and I've forked out for a new tailgate (because my first one was manufactured with baking tin, and crunched in half trying to load a motorcycle in the bed; granted it's not mechanical failure, but still...), and serious $$ for a throwout bearing kit and install, when I discovered that the chirping I was dealing with was also a known issue for certain of Toytota's manual trans. And Toyota didn't offer to pay me half. Please... suck it up and take the deal. You're fortunate you got anything at all.

I too was frustrated and depressed, particularly with the exceptionally stupid engineering that caused the trans problem, but you do your best and move on. I make it a learning experience. Folks come to forums like these and think certain Toyota products are apparently total crap, drowning under the weight of their deficiencies, but there are millions and millions of Tacoma owners that have trivial or zero problems and never come here.

We just got "lucky." I feel very fortunate that TW was here for advice on the above and other issues, and I'm grateful to all you guys that come here to share your knowledge! You know who you are.

Unfortunately, the best you can hope for is a good platform to build upon. The Tacoma is the best choice I could find. Look around at the alternatives. My Jeep owning friends have me on speed dial, and I always get invited on Jeep outings....I wonder why? Luckily, these days most issues can be fixed with enough money, a lively aftermarket, and the information sharing on sites like TW. Toyota's unwillingness to address known issues year after year, like the TOB chirping, transmission issues, ADD reliability, etc insures that I will never buy a new Toyota. I buy used, and look for a good deal so that I will have the money to just strip the truck and fix everything myself. At least by now WE all have a very good idea of what the issues are.

I too appreciate the other thoughtful members here who have added to the conversation and made us all smarter!:cheers:

Is this a joke? Toyota products are solid as fuck. Nothing is perfect, but try owning a Chrysler product and you'll know what used really feels like. My bro bought a new dodge caliber... that was painful. Never again.

My 08' Tundra had the AIP failure at the predictable 60-70k. It was awesome having your truck go into total limp mode for a start up emissions gimmick!

Glad I wasn't towing anything when it happened. I now have a 06 Tacoma, not because of that but glad it don't have that crap!

    copied from a grief article...

The stages of grief and morning are universal and are experienced by people from all walks of life, across many cultures. Mourning occurs in response to an individual’s own terminal illness, the loss of a close relationship, or to the death of a valued being, human or animal.

Notice the word "truck" wasn't mentioned anywhere.
