I have a 2017 PRO, one of the very first builds (build date: 09 August 2016), and the CRAWL control has a definite problem...at least to me. When in CRAWL in the lowest position (full CCW) it will surge (or lope) and never smooth out, no matter what kind of terrain I have tried it in. If I turn the CRAWL rheostat up (CW) it will eventually smooth out and work properly. I took my truck into the Toyota dealership and long story short, we test drove it in their grass ditch terrain, the tech said it is normal behavior and you turn it up until it stops surging and leave it there. I asked him, "well then, when would I use the lowest setting?" He responded "I don't know...maybe stuck in sand or climbing a steep grade?" It surges on steep terrain, don't know about stuck in sand. I've checked out two 2016's with CRAWL (on asphalt), neither of them had this behavior.

Note: I had the T-SB-0077-16 Rev.1 installed. It did not change the CRAWL behavior.

Anyone else experiencing this type of behavior or have any idea or info of what is going on?

    Thanks in advance...

Mine does the same thing. I've only tried it once Off Road just to see what it did. It was on some ledges/hill. Stopped halfway up and turned it off. I didn't bother adjusting the speed to see if that changed anything.

Then again I don't ever use the MTS either. Probably should give that a try too.

Glad to hear somebody else has this behavior but there are two concerning facts that made me post.
    1) When I bought my truck the salesman showed me how the CRAWL controlled worked and when I turned it on in the lowest setting and it started clicking and clanging and surging forward he excited told me to "TURN IT OFF!" This guy has demonstrated the CRAWL control dozens of times to customers and had never experienced this behavior.
    2) I was physically in two other Tacoma's with CRAWL on lowest setting in parking lots and neither of them surged, just clicked and clanked a little surge then smoothed out.

Maybe I should define the amount of SURGE I am getting...when just normally holding the steering wheel, my back will come off the seat a few inches then pushed back against the seat...it threw my wife way further:rofl:. Is that what you guys are experiencing?

My lowest setting is pretty rough but it does smooth out after a few seconds. It still jitters a bit, but not like you were mentioning.

Exactly! That's how the 2 I tested were, just as you described. I can't imagine any circumstance that the way mine acts would be a benefit or a normal function...it actually could be dangerous in an extreme situation.

I have only used the MTS, which I think works pretty well. It just takes a bit of the possible human error out of working the throttle while on various terrain. I have not used the crawl control in a legitimate situation yet. I have not had a need for it, but I can see how it would be useful on rocks or if you were trying to winch your way up something.

I've used it in mud when I was stuck and didn't get me out because my frame was sitting on the ground and I also used it when I dug into the sand on purpose to test it, it jerks but I'm pretty sure it's normal I have a '17 OR

I would just try to break it and make them fix it?

I use it in technical mountainous terrain (National Forest & private land) in the the higher CRAWL speeds and for sure the lowest setting (speed) would be useful but not if it surges. It is way more advantageous to just steer on some trails.

Mine does the same, it must be pretty normal. I have watched crawl control demoed on you tube where they are climbing rocks and they seem to also surge.

Mine surges on the lowest setting too. It seems like it happens when the truck wants to move faster than the CC setting allows. If I'm going downhill or on level ground it surges, if I'm going uphill it's smooth.

I had the same experience when I first tested it. I was almost thrown out of my seat in the 1st setting with the truck bucking like an enraged bull but the other settings were smooth and fine. But I am in Florida so there aren't exactly any steep grades to practice with so it was flat ground. I did not try going back to 1 from a higher setting maybe it would have smoothed out.

Has anyone taken there truck in to see if this is actually normal? I tested my crawl control out last weekend and the slowest speed jerks like crazy.

Go back to the dealer and do a ride with the shoplead/foreman. In your truck and a truck on the lot. Doing the exact same terrain. Etc.

Point out that after a few seconds yours still surges, and point out in the lot vehicle that it does/doesnot surge with clear documentation etc.

    Mostly stuff I built.
Our TRD Pro 4Runner and my neighbors 2016 OR act the same way in CC on lower setting. Pretty sure it is normal.

99% sure Toyota's advertising videos showing Crawl working it was extremely jerky at low speed and sounded like it was just breaking itself.

I'd compare your truck to the ones advertised by Toyota. If it jerks more than their test trucks did, then
