Best Option for new truck?

Discussion in '2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)' started by cseigh, Jan 1, 2017.

?

What should I buy?

  1. 2nd Gen DCLBFTMFW!!!!

    86.7%
  2. 3rd Gen stick shift. Better to have a long stick than a long bed.

    13.3%

    Short version:
Have an 05 TRD Sport Access Cab w/ 126,000 miles. Need back seats for kids (getting waaay to big)
Want long bed (use it quite a bit)
Hate 3rd gen auto. Refuse to buy it. Don't mind the 2nd gen auto. Have one in current truck.

Option 1: Can get a Certified Pre Owned 2014 DCLB TRD Sport with low miles (12,000) for around $29,000. 7yr/100k warranty.
(Bonus, I can put the topper from my current truck on this one and save $)

Option 2: Dealer offered me a 3rd gen TRD OR manual w/ tech package for $34,000

Money isn't really that big of an issue. More worried about reliability. As a bonus I already know how to fix all the problems that will come up on the 2nd gen.

    Same as everybody else...
I'd go with Option 1 as well assuming no accidents and scheduled maintenance was done.

Don't assume the back seat of a double cab is family friendly. You'll fit, but it's tight.

    Option 1.

Too bad they hold value so damn well! $29k doesn't seem like much of a discount from its new price. LoL But it's $5k less and you basically get a free topper instead of spending $2k on a new one.

    So net it's $7k less.

Correct. Like I said, money isn't a huge issue, but it sure is nice to save 7k. If I get the third gen, I would need to shell out around 2k for a new topper. Definitely cant have a short bed without it.

Do you need a 6 cyl? If it was me I'd go with a new SR. Or in your case I guess an SR5.
Personally I doubt I'll ever get into a turd gen 6 cyl but would have no issues going into a Utility Package SR with MT.

I tow a boat quite often so the V6 is a must have for me.

The guys on the third gen forum are making some convincing arguments on my thread over there. Anyone else?

4.0 has better low end. Doesn't have to work as hard to tow. I test drove a 3rd gen. Nice truck, but was not at all impressed by the power.

You mean they are talking you out of a 3rd gen? LOL Cause every time I venture to look in that forum it's a bunch of bitching about shit not working, lemon laws, etc.

Ultimately you should buy the one you want. :)

i have an 09 dclb. Im 6'3 and i fit very comfortable in the driver seat. My son is 7 years old and 54 inches tall, he sits behind me. there is about 8 inches between his knees and my seat. My daughter sits in a rear facing car seat behind my wifes seat, the rear middle seat is open. we have plenty of room, no complaints from anyone. In fact, my wife and son have more room in this truck than in my 04 crew cab silverado
