TAC weld mod on steering bushing. Supposed to tighten up steering a lot and get rid of wander and a rattle.

Didn't really have any of those issues. But worth a shot. Pretty easy to do. I'm done. Just have to reinstall the column. Gonna wait as its very easy to access the brake booster and oedak right now haha

Figured Id try it. Pretty easy to do really. It gets rid of slop in the steering so people say it helps with wandering.

No poly bushings yet. I have some though to go in.

 

Not my words. Others. Lots of people say this fixes it and drives completely different after doing it feeling more responsive and all.

I have no idea yet.

I do know that the joint can develop a lot of play in it. Mine didn't seem to have much. But I know some can.

I think the play in the U joint is worse. But who knows. I'll find out soon enough.

 

It works.

I haven't driven it. But I did a simple test. Before the mod. I wiggled the wheel back and forth in the zone where it does nothing. You know how you can jiggle it about a half inch or so.

The wheels don't move at all though. You have to move the wheel past the play area to make them turn.

Now. The wheels move inside the zone where they didn't before. Definitely tied things together much better.

This is with stock rack bushings.

Won't be driving it for a bit. Brakes need bled and alignment is Tuesday morning. I'll probably do the bushings as I have them and might as well. See how I feel tonight.

Either way. It makes an obvious differnce. I've taken video too.

 

Under there is a captured spring, the spring is ultra stiff but allows some movement and ultimately the collapse of the column in the event of a serious crash. His welding stops the spring from doing its thing. Otherwise you'd be correct it would be useless for a splined connection.

 

I just wanted to try it. Wasn't complaining about my steering either. But if it winds up be good then I'm doing it to all the tacos at my place.

 

I will forever feel sorry for Igor and guilty for the three years of Missouri winter abuse.

Broke a bolt taking off the skid. Damn.

Nothing in Wyo that comes even close I-90 in Wa. I think Wyo can get away with only sanding because traffic volumes are so low.

I just drove back from Mazama, all sanding in all the treacherous spots until 1-90. All of the spinouts and ditchings (at least10 incidents) were in the sections that were sanded. On I-90, 10 times the traffic load and everyone is doing the speed limit or 5 over. I can see why they are salting I-90.

 

There's still rock salt sitting in the foglight cutout of our Escalade from when we drove back from South Dakota. They were laying that shit thick from Ritzville to Vantage

Planning on calling for some quotes tomorrow, and after reading the entire ADS thread they're close to the top of my list.

 

Idk..i80 is pretty bad.

Granted every year you see the large pile ups, it's usually i80 haha

Loves it. Rides super good. Amazing actually considering we've never felt the need to revalve it.

Should be at the top or near the top of your list. Amazing shocks. Going all ads on both mine when I can afford it.
