Hi. I'm just curious of how you guys are using the OEM roof racks. I've seen Kayaks being loaded on top in the pics but anything else?

I'm thinking of getting them just because I think they look good on the truck but if ends up not being that useful, I'm leaning on buying a heavy duty cross bars that work with the tonneau covers and get an RTT someday..

I'm thinking about adding the OEM roof rack as well... it seems like it would be pretty handy

I am wondering too, seems like that would help overcome some of the issues of a short bed.

I've seen a lot of pictures of people with the OEM rack but haven't seen any pictures of anyone really using it....

Would like to see more people most pics of the OEM rack being used as well.

I would go aftermarket if you have the choice. I have a Yakima basket on my oem and yes it works but I'm probably going to sell it and go with a Prinsu, Rhino Rack, or something else at some point. The oem rack is a clean look, but for light duty only.

I'm in the process of making some brackets to mount an awning on my OEM rack. Besides that I'll probably just throw my cargo basket up there when I need the space.

There are brackets for a 40" light bar that mount to the rack too so you dont have to mount directly to the roof

Sorry no pics but have had one on my truck since new in 2008. Bought it from Toyota of Dalas for about half of what my dealer wanted. It looks good on the truck but think there's better options. I've carried my sea kayak, 16' ladder, surfboard, snowboards.... Bars are a little close together for the longer loads but still did fine. It was challenging getting 4 snowboards on Yakima attachment without the bottom boards bindings scratching up my roof due to the low profile. I have a Snugtop canopy now with Yakima crossbars now and is much easier to strap lond items including lumber on top. If I didn't have a canopy now I would probably be looking at something more stout and versatile.

If you're thinking about getting an RTT, I would consider getting a bedrack and putting it there and not on the roof. Check out bedracks from BAMF and RCI they would both work great. I have the BAMF rack and really like it. Putting an RTT on the stock roof rack isn't going to work IMO. With just a basket on it I can push it down to where the mounts almost touch the roof, it's only rated for 100lb and has way too much flexibility to be putting any kind of significant weight on it. I put yakima cross bars on the oem rack in the stowed position and it is bettter but I still wouldn't throw anything heavy up there. Plus getting the RTT to the bed will keep it out of the wind better and keep the weight lower.

This. The OEM isnt rated for much weight and with how expensive it is....get a Prinsu or Frontrunner.

Here's a load bar kit from Frontrunners good for up to 600lbs. I have an option to add their full slimline rack if I want to later on. C7A6B53F-65AE-456C-A3AC-BB3BF48F126E.jpg

I have the OEM roof racks, they are 45" apart (front to back). Anyone know of a hard top carrier that fits this? I currently have the Thule Sonic XXL https://www.rei.com/product/851049/thule-sonic-xxl-roof-box but the clamps only spread to 37". I'm trying to find a large (20+ cu.ft.) carrier that will fit this, but can't seem to locate anything.

So far only used it for a stand-up paddle board but have plans to either add a rack or soft-top cargo bag for more storage but haven't looked into any that would fit the OEM roof rack.
