Thanks for your responses. I'd have to agree- sounds like the 70 series is the sweet spot. Im on 245-75's now. I'm for sure going with a 265, just not yet sure which one. I'm not too worried about the gas mileage. 1mph wouldn't be bad. 2 starts getting significant with the number of hiway miles I drive. Really, My only reason for going with the 75's would be looks. I like it so much better than the 70's. But I do really like the pedal response of my current tires. That's my biggest fear with the 75's.

If you have any pics of your truck from the side with stock suspension... If it's a hassle, don't worry about it.

Best I've got on hand but I can take one directly from the side tomorrow. It won't be any trouble.

My Taco came with 265/70/16's. I used 245/75/16's when they wore out. Same height, but about 1" narrower. Went back to 265/70/16's for the 3rd set and finally at 127,000 miles upgraded to 265/75/16's. Wish I'd done that years ago. Compared to what came from the factory they are the same width, but 1" taller. I think the truck looks better and I can't tell any difference in performance or fuel mileage.

Some guys change to a HEAVY E rated "LT" tire when going to 265/75/16's. The weight is what costs them performance, not the size. I stayed with "P" rated tires and have been very pleased

I notice the inaccuracy of the speedo/odo to be incredibly LOW relative to other brands. Approximately 2-3 kph.
The biggest problem that the change brings, is the loss of force. Same torque, longer lever = less force applied.

Was going to start a new thread but found this one so I figured to continue this one since it already has the conversation going (minus the couple months lapsed time). I do mostly highway and live in the north, lots of snow in the winter. My 2011 2.7 has aftermarket 16". Currently running 245 75 16. Will need new tires before winter, trying to be proactive so I can start looking and hopefully buy when a good deal comes along. My question is, whats better in my situation, keep the same size or going to the 265 70 16. The most important in order is mpg, handling in snow (only half of the year), best on the highway.

My other question is should I get the Michelin LTX MS2, which are being closed out or are the new Defenders just as good. Thank you in advance for the feedback.

Do you rub at all? Also do you have any lift at all? I want to keep my factory wheels as well.

I have a 2014 and really just want to leave it stock. Last two I have lifted, Fords but just seemed to run into trouble when changing to much...

I am on the fence about lift or not. I have had a 99 and a 03 tacoma, the 99 had spacers and body with 33's, the 03 had OME front and rear complete and then a 6" trailmaster and body with 35"s when the OME started sagging. I went to fords for a while and had a F150 with procomp 6" with 3" coilovers and a body with 38's. I bought the truck 2 years ago and wasn't going to do anything but am getting the itch a bit.

The last time I had OME's was 13 years ago and had a bit of issues with them sagging hence I went with the drop bracket kit. I have heard that they have changed manufacturers of the steel and the process the springs are manufactured. I was actually thinking about going that route. If I lift it I really only want about 2" of lift to have better fitment of some 32" tires.

    What lift are you getting?

any chance you could post some pictures of the side of the truck profile and maybe some clearance. I was actually looking at the OME kit as well.

Sorry to post in the 2nd gen forum.

Yes. Also happy I found this thread. I very recently had 265/70 16s put on.

    BUT.

I was scooping some other Tacomas at the mountain last weekend and was like, I can go bigger.

Firestone says they'll swap out my new tires to a 265/75 for about $37 bucks. Curious if it's worth the trouble?

My truck handles the country roads and mountain pass way better with my new AT tires over the stock highway ones.

Here's what my truck currently looks like.

I can't say enough good things about these tires - they continue to impress me with their grip. They are on the shorter side of a 265/75, just over 31" tall. The speedometer reads dead on with these tires, verified by GPS.
