    I've used one of the plug n play type trailer harnesses before and it worked fine. You run the wires up to your taillights and plug them in to the taillights and then plug the wires from the truck taillights backing into them. Every 5-7 years or so I had to replace the harness because the converter box went out but it was pretty easy to do. Worked fine for my 1st gen.

    edit: My set looked just like the one @SpruceTaco linked above. Got my set at Wally World. The set he linked may be a better set though.
