i just had my 17 windshield get cracked from a small rock. I saw a few threads about this. I'd like some ammo for calling Toyota. This seems too common!

Ammo for what? You think Toyota will replace your windshield due to a rock hitting it?

If it's a common problem on these turd gens (do a search, it seems to be) maybe a TSB? Recall?

If nobody is telling them they won't know.

My '08 and '15 were the same. Very brittle and so are many other manufacturers made these days.

I've seen the same complaint for 2nd gens, good luck. I had mine replaced two weeks ago. Just took a trip out to NW Ohio, got hit by another small rock ... no damage luckily. I'm assuming this will not be my last replacement, and do not think Toyota should be held responsible considering the windshield passed government regulations.

internet polls are not very accurate, but I also have read about many members having problems with cracked windshields.

Like everything else in a vehicle, more goes into the parts than the obvious. like lower weight- lighter = better for mpg's, acoustics- lower decibels = better driver experience, cost- cheaper = better bottom line.

maybe something will come of this- I have been driving for 10 months in suburban/ urban streets and highways and no chips/ cracks FWIW.

My windshield just got hit by a rock and has cracked. My question for others who have replaced their windshields is did you buy a factory Toyota replacement or did you buy aftermarket windshield. Any pros and cons? I need to replace mine soon.

I have two cracks on my 2015. Both from rock strikes.

Toyota owes me! This is bull shit! How dare they make glass that can be cracked by rock strikes!

Ridiculous... they should pay my retirement fund. And buy me a girlfriend. And a nanny. And a new house.

Or... maybe I should deal with it and buy a new windshield at some point...

We live in CO. We replace every windshield on every vehicle every year because of cracks and pits... I am considering getting one of the windshield film protectants installed on my Tacoma when I buy it to see if it helps. From what I've read, they work pretty well. Lots of high end car owners get them because those windshields are so expensive to replace.

I got a USA made Fuyao windshield. It was noticeably heavier than the original. Go pro mount and everything.

Not even kidding, I could hold the original with one hand straight out in front of me very easily. Perhaps this is typical, but that was a first for me. I didn't want to be stupid and try this with the replacement, but it did feel heavier in general.

Strange how this is happening. Maybe bad batches? Idk. When traveling the Yukon to Kodiak Alaska, a lot of roads has been washed away or under construction. I remember a truck heading in the opposite direction, speeding like a dick head. Our vehicles crossed and a rock slammed into my windshield. It sounded like a gun shot. I thought for sure it cracked my windshiels, nothing....Maybe I have been lucky.

Just FYI, it's the low angle of the glass and the thickness of the glass to save weight/ cost. This combo isn't great for any sort of projectile impacts. Doubt any manufacturer would warranty this unless your vehicle's frame flexed so much, the glass cracked due to shearing and twisting. If that was the case, your vehicle wouldn't be road worthy.

From being in the glass company for years. Always buy oem glass or if you go through insurance ask for oem. All aftermarket glass is cheaper then oem. Hopes this helps
