A rick is a single stack of wood

    A cord is 128cuft

So with 16" long firewood , 3 ricks 8' long and 4' high would be a cord

Face cord is 1 row 4' high , 8' long

Face cord is a horseshit measurement though that should be shunned at all cost

i.e., full cord is a real unit of measurement, a face cord is bullshit.

Or in other words your getting ripped off if you buy wood from someone who measures the amount of wood this way.;)

I've seen enterprising individuals trying to sell "cords" of wood mid-winter, only when you show up do they tell you its a face cord. I'm sure it works on some people too.

It worked on a couple friends of mine who just wanted to buy wood for their fireplace. When I let them know that you can't fit a cord in a Tacoma they said they did...lol

I paid $75. For what turns out to be 1/2 cord ish, two loads worth. From a little old lady next to my grandmother. It's been sitting in her garage for about five years dear as she can remember. Her husband passed and she's not doing the fire by herself. Never had wood this well seasoned

Oh I bet! It's probably light as hell. I told my wife to tap the wood together that hollow noise you hear is a good judge of how well seasoned it is.

Agree, but not too many people even know what a cord of wood is. I love it when they come by with a long bed truck trying to sell me a "cord" and I tell them to piss off.

Dry wood -- WAAAY less creosote when you use it -- TOO much Cresote buildup == FLUE FIRES. The wood I am burning right now is at least 2-3 years old Oak/hicory
