No plug. The block is molded with the hole there. I took a mirror and it's a hole. Trust me it's there and easy. U should never do straight coolant. It should be 50/50 or 60/40.

Yeah you are right. But this heater in no way gets in contact with ANY fluid.

It has to be an elongated cavity that the heat prob fits into, right?

From what i see for the 3.5L it looks to be a round hole. You have a2.7L as per the side bar . the 2.7 L has a different heater that looks like it goes into the waterjacket itself ?

Coolant has to be mixed, side note straight coolant could void warranty as improper maintenance. Besides you are running synthetic oil, the pour points are better at colder temps, haven't run block heaters for years and it gets dam cold here in ND.

Agreed ,about the coolant . The only reason I brought up the coolant is that in the video to install the block heater , the guy says it will not work with straight coolant . I thought it strange and weird because one should not ever use straight undiluted coolant.
I believe in below 0 degree F and below weather , a block heater is cheap protection from engine wear .
It may start without one but at what cost to engine wear ?

You don't have to mount the plug next to the fog light. I have seen some Tacomas with the plug mounted in the bumper. IMG_2317.jpg

Is there a part number for that or is it molded in the fog light housing? If there is a part number I would like to mount it to my aftermarket bumper in some way.

That's the Toyota one. I don't have the part number but it goes basically where you want to drill a hole to install the plug. It also comes with 2 power cords. Pretty sure one is 18 inches and the other is 5 or 6 feet. Truck is usually on the road or in the garage. I like this setup. Looks cleaner and I have had block heater cords in the past flapping in the wind and banging on the vechicle. And if you forget to unplug it it doesn't cause any damage.

Hey how come you get that clean-looking install and all I get is an ugly cord zip tied above my license plate?

    IMHO
I have the block heater that was installed by the dealer. Toyota made the stupid decision to make the connection "special".
The end coming from the engine can be mounted wherever you want. Drill a hole and mount it to the fog light housing, bumper or wherever. You then take the Toyota specific cord, attach it to the connection you've mounted and then plug in to any extension cord.
I broke my fog light housing the first time I forgot to disconnect the cord before driving away. Dumb me but dumber design.
If I had my way I would take the Toyota cords, zip tie them inside the engine bay and only have a little tag end sticking out of the grill. Attach to an extension cord when you want. Pull the tag end into the engine bay out of site in the summer.

if you forget to unplug it. The plug is facing forward and it will pop the cord out.

Mine came installed by default due to region, but it's to the left of the fogs, between the grille and licence plate; sort of where people mount the stealth LED bars. I can't believe people living in environments that require a block heater can get away with that little flip cover...does it not get covered in ice and frozen shut? I prefer the "loose" connection that allows more freedom in where cords are at and where I can park.

In other news, I love the synthetic oil. -30 last night and I forgot to plug in, no issues on startup. My old truck with 5W-30 hated existence under 20 degrees.

I assume the 2016 Tacomas do not come from the factory with straight coolant? It's already mixed right? Thanks!

Any real-world experience of the engine block heater with the plug-in located next to the fog lamp? I like the look, but - like others on here - I'm a little concerned that the plastic flap will either get frozen closed, or just snap off. Also, on the off chance that some wanker steals your cord you'd have to re-order one from the dealer. That's dumb.
