I have to push my clutch pedal way down until it hits the floor , so my foot is in a recessed area in to floor to start my Tacoma , with boots its difficult , is this normal?
The clutch engages way before the start switch is depressed

Not sure if it's normal, but mine is that same way, if it's not on the floor the truck won't start, and if as it cranks over you lift a little it will stop turning over. So yeah I think it's normal

Mine is also the same way, and it has always been that way. It always feels like you have to take your left foot and shove the clutch pedal down the things esophagus to get it to turn over, which, as we all know, is a huge pain in the ass.

You guys can adjust that start switch down there to help with your problem.... That way you dont have to punch the pedal through the floor board to get the ole girl goin...

Thanks Bry838. I will take a look at adjusting that start switch. I am, however, so used to shoving the clutch pedal down my Tacomas esophagus that it does not phase me anymore. Although, on a cold night after I just thrashed myself doing labor on a project, I wish my old Tacoma was an automatic. This is crazy coming from me because when I went looking to get for my Tacoma a dozen years ago, I was hell bent on getting one with a 5-speed.

    Take it easy,
    Paul

That was the first thing removed when I got my Tacoma home

It is a personal thing they are removed from all my vehicles

You can always use the clutch start cancel switch. You can check if the little plastic thing on the bottom of the pedal that pushes the safety switch is broken.

I thought it caused extra stress to use clutch start cancel?

Never heard that. I hardly ever use mine though, occasionally when I start the truck to let it warm up.

I checked my switch and it was connected by a nut to a bracket , and there isn't any adjustment ,I can see.
The bracket is made of thin metal , and I bent it up towards the clutch pedal , and it engages the starter about 1 inch from the floor now.
I expect it will bend back down , may have to weld it , or add a brace to it.
