My cig lighter in the front dash isn't working anymore. I noticed it today when I tried to charge my phone. I tested another plug-in device and it still isn't working so it's definitely the cig lighter. Temporarily I'm using the backup cig lighter in the armrest console which is working fine. My first thought is maybe the fuse is burnt but I don't know where to check this. The owners manual doesn't have diagram of the fuse layouts. Appreciate the help!

But really, there should be a layout of fuses either printed on or a sticker applied to fuse panel cover.

Did you use a portable air compressor that plugs into the socket ever. I had one of those melt the wires on my old truck before and not blow a fuse. The cig lighter never worked after that. The fuse was fine it was the wires behind socket that were screwed from getting hot.

@brentw59 Something was f'd up for that to happened. Avoiding melted wires (and maybe a fire) is sort of the whole point of having a fuse on the circuit... Either the wire had somehow ended up breaking enough internal strands to be unable to carry the rated current or someone (prior to you probably) had replaced a fuse with too high an amperage fuse.

@80sforlife Just look on the plastic cover for the under-dash fuse panel. The two aux power outlets are labelled something like AUX1 and AUX2. Simple enough to tell if a fuse is blown.

Mine died as well and I forgot to mention it when I took it in for the 5k service because like you it was a minor inconvenience and Ive been using the one in the armrest console.

Interesting... I used my portable air compressor a few times in the front cig lighter after I first bought the truck.

I wouldn't worry about using your air compressor. The wires are sized to handle the amperage. And if you go over the amperage the fuse will blow. There was another issue which caused his wife's to melt. Like a wrong fuse or maybe a loose connection which caused arcing.

I was talking to a buddy about it at work today same thing happened to him while camping. Used his portable to air up his tire all the way so about 15min with a portable when he went to pull the plug out of the cig socket the whole socket pulled out of the dash he said it was super hot. He had a 2002 extra cab 2wd mine was a 2001 single cab 2wd. I agree the fuse should blow not sure why that would happen but it did.

I searched around and other people have had the same issue while using air compressors. A few others with toyota trucks and a few with camrys.
