Put me down for two 30 hour days a week. My "Monday" & "Friday" are always that way.

I've read plenty on our circadian rhythm and the health issues of living outside it but, I honestly feel no or only little different if I'm on days and sleeping the same schedule (or close) vs. working nights and switching back and forth.

I don't and every few months I do a 10 hour road trip in the last 10 hours. Never and issue.

That's nuts. I've worked plenty of hours, we work a 24 every shift and sometimes with overtime up to 72 but we have a bed and a blanket. It's basically like being at home but you have to get up and go when it's time to work.

My 48hr week is Saturday and Sunday, definitely have to get at least 2-3hrs of sleep every 15-20hrs or I turn into an angry, stupid POS... I can't imagine 30hrs straight...

Right? I wouldn't have any idea what is going on, at that point.

Nope I stay up straight through. I try to sleep in the day before. It just depends how much I need to get done in my weekend, and what's going on.

I'm betting you're in better health than I am in general though- counting out the bad sleep habits. I'm more than overweight, so I can feel the stress when I do stay up like that. Working on making that better, but there's nothing I can do to change the moment.
And I'm the same with the days I choose, the mon/fri. Tho my my "monday" is usually something like a 24-26 hr day.

I only get a bit snippy at certain people. Like my mother . Mainly just the people that bother me day to day that I cant contain my annoyance at anymore, lol.

You should have seen me by christmas evening. I was on hour 32 by 6pm. I just kind of sat in the chair petting the cat in my lap slowly staring about the room. While there's a house full of 20+ relatives laughing/arguing etc. As soon as we got done with our little present game I was like "can i please go home now?" haha. that 40min drive back to my apartment was fun. At least the micro naps only came in the last mile I had to go. It was a scary mile.

When i stay up that long I usually try to stay wherever I am at past that certain mark i can feel it really effecting me. at least when you go to bed, you sleep like a rock, and fall asleep in like 5minutes.

I feel ya with the family thing, somehow they can be acting completely normal and still manage to push every button you have, at that point.

Oh man, been there entirely too often. Though sometimes its nice to be in your own little world in a room full of extended family :anonymous:
Careful with the sleep deprived driving, you don't want to be shopping for a taco again, do ya? That's some of the very least that could happen.

Oh with this side of the family I usually can't take it after an hour anyways. They're all very loud people. One starts talking at a loud level and the different groups conversing just get louder and louder. I think I lasted longer this christmas than normal.

haha I have yet to crash driving like that. It wasn't bad for the bit I was on. But when I first started working midnights I had those micro naps for a few months driving home on a windy backroad. I'd be putting all the windows down, blasting the music, and slapping myself in the face to get home. Probably very stupid thing to do, but i lived, and so did that car. After two years and a bunch of sleep deprivation I have just gotten used to it. Now it takes a lot to get to that point.

Couldn't say. I don't have sleep apnea for sure (I'm pretty lean 5-9 & ~150lbs) but, I can tell you I sleep better with more physical activity, no booze and eating decent.

Fact man, over the holidays I boozed and ate some good stuff (but not so healthy) and I can tell it that night and the next day.

Especially with the booze. Getting drunk and having 12hrs of sleep is nowhere near as restful as being sober and getting 6hrs, imo.

Atm= at this moment. Sorry about my young hip lingo, haha.

I only had that happen once in high school. Got done haning out and was driving back to my fathers. Was on the left side of a 3 lane and woke up on the right only seeing median. Corrected and pulled off about 400ft ahead that was the closest. I grazed the clear coat off of the right side bumper. Closest call I think anyone could have. My heart was pumping like a crazy so I decided to finish the last 1.5mi back to his house. Still almost fell asleep. ...I thought about that night before seeing as I didn't stay up ridiculous hours then. Part of me thinks I was drugged, because not a thing even close to that ever happened again until working these midnight shifts.

I haven't hadecided real issues since adjusting until Christmas night. I would have just stayed at the house, but there were no beds left to use.

I haven't been keeping up on this thread, but I have a relevant story to share regarding driving sleep deprived; it has stuck in my head for 17 yrs. Operation Allied Force kicked off in March 1999; I was assigned to the Command Post at RAF Mildenhall, UK. To keep a long story short, the increased operational tempo had the entire base working extended shifts with no days off for almost a month before augmentation forces arrived from stateside. About two weeks into that 1st month, the local constabulary (police) started reporting a marked increase in suspected DUI traffic stops of military personnel in the area. People were driving as if they were drunk, because they were worn out and sleep deprived.

Just a little food for thought for my fellow shift- workers. ;)

I've felt this way on occasion. Always try to be aware of it & adjust what I'm doing accordingly.

    Good deal.

    I'm off the next 3 :)
