Good morning fellas, I am new to the forum. I have a 2011 Taco with Off-road TRD pkg. I was wondering if it was normal that when I come to a complete stop, my truck does a small bump like if the trany changed gears or went back to the first gear. I have never towed anything or even taken it off roading.

it sounds like axle wrap, my 06 did the same thing, I had the TSB leaf springs installed recently and it went away.
It could be something else too.

I really don't think it's Axle wrap. My truck is stock. I come to a complete stop at a light and after a few seconds the truck thumps sort of like if someone had bumped me.

mine does the same, and has its whole life,'08 with 269k miles on it. I honestly think its the converter fully unlocking after a few seconds. at 269k, its not been an issue other than being an oddity, i'm leaving it alone.

Your truck would stall if you came to a stop and the converter didnt unlock . It would be similar to coming to a stop with a manual transmission in 6th gear and not pushing the clutch pedal down .

That is exactly what mine did for about 6 months until I found the thread gearcruncher linked in post 3. You really don't need to completely dissamble the driveshaft to grease it. You can expose enough of the splines to grease by pushing the boot away and unbolting the carrier bearing. That was enough to be able to smear some grease in there by hand. It's about 15 minutes worth of time on your back, and an easy troubleshooting step. Eventually, I ended up putting a grease fitting in there. I found the "permanent" plastic coating/whatever had partly worn off.

Your Tranny is Low on Tranny Fluid! 1-2 Quarts Low!, Drain at pan to Tranny, and Refill with WS ATF 3.2 Qts ! Operate and shift thru all Gears for 5 minutes and test drive! Problem Fixxed! Mine did same thing ! Runs like a champ now! Cheap and easy fix,Toyota underfilled many trannys!

I dont think thats proper procedure.

Theres a temp requirement, and then u check level... you dont just randomly throw in 3.2qrts, go thru gears for 5 minutes and drive off.

True, but the context is most likely correct, low automatic transmission fluid. Mine did the same thing when low after trans fluid flushes. Each mechanic thought when you flush the transmission "I removed "X" amount so as long as I put back "X" amount the level should be the same" Ask me how I know this not to be true. On three different occasions in three different shops. Each time had to put about another quart of fluid in.

I've had the Axel wrap/ lurch up until recently, but it seems to have been resolved now. I did the greasing of the drive shaft, but that didn't help. I think low transmission fluid might have been the cause.

Over the Christmas period the tube that leads from the transmission on my truck started leaking and leaked out all of the transmission fluid. I had to replace the tube and refill it with almost 4 quarts of fluid. I've not had an issue with the axel wrap/lurch since.

I believe that what might have caused the issue was that I had bought the truck (second hand) with low transmission fluid level and now that I have enough I'm not having the problem thus far. I don't know if ensuring that you have enough transmission fluid will resolve the issue for you, but it worked for me.

Yes , low transmission fluid will also cause this .
The reason I posted the axle wrap link is because it is by far the most common issue , however , as Rambo54 has pointed out , it was also common to see these trucks low on transmission fluid . You can read about the low fluid in 2nd gen trucks here . Its an old post but there are some good tips

I also have a full blown write up here for the 5 speed auto
