Ha ha, yes. We took my truck to a New Years party because the weather was so crappy, but had we not it would off been right there and the bullet would of gone through the roof, so in some ways I guess we are lucky...
Not feeling lucky, but it could be worse

The cops didn't want the bullet, they just thought that we wanted them to take it, however when I tried to get it for the cop, I barely touched it and it fell through the grill.
I thought that they would want it to see if they ever run across the same rifleing that they could change the (Im sure) illegal gun owner with more charges. So I assume form this I have watched to much CSI and that is not how our local plod actually work...
What I learnt from this is that if you ever have a bullet just hanging around your demister grill, use a vacuum cleaner and a pick to give it a little help from underneath and you should be able to retrieve with no issues.

Yes, filed the police report and I am not expecting anything to happen expect our insurance rates to rise. It is a brand new vehicle and it was raining constantly all through the night and through the hole in the window, so we claimed insurance, as there is no telling if any of the electronics under and behind the dash got wet.
    Just so sux.
I would like to find the upstanding citizen and pisto whip his arse until he understands basic physics. Pistol in the air, pistol down arcoss his head... repeat... until the what goes up must come down is completely understood.
    Fark...

It's a reasonable thought, I don't mean to be a putz here. I just like to think things all the way through...

In this instance: Even if they can at some point associate the bullet with a specific weapon (which is more of a probability than a certainty), it becomes rather more difficult to prove *who* fired the weapon that resulted in your windshield damage.

With luck I'll hopefully never need to use the advice you provided on rescuing a bullet from my dash. :D

You're right, I *don't* know what it would accomplish. Thus the entire point of my asking... I thought you had something in mind.

Apparently the police who responded didn't have anything in mind to do with it either:

How in the hell does someone hit a bright red truck that is parked a foot from the line in a parking lot.
