went to to tire stores today looking at cooper discoverer SST pro tires. Both seem to think they will fit with no rubbing. If asked what we do if they end up rubbing. Both said that they would switch to the 265/70/17 no extra charges.

I pick up the new ride next Thursday I guess I will let them give 285's a try, would like the bigger size.

Back in 1980 I had a Toyota truck pre Tacoma. I had 31's on it with no lift and had no problems.

Being they are not going to charge if the 285's don't fit I don't see any problems.

    Any thoughts???

A couple guys have gone this route some say rubbing some say no, but both have lifts. Hoping your not putting these on a stock suspension. I had the same size on my Silverado with a 2in lift and had to do some cutting

Not really wanting to lift the truck would like to leave it stock. Short term on stock rims, custom rims for Christmas maybe..

Well if I'm not mistaken. Your trying to go up over 2 inches of height and 3/4 of an inch wider. Probably not going to fit. And if you do get them in there good luck trying to turn them you're going to need a lift even then you might have to do some trimming

265/70/17 is the biggest tire you can fit without rubbing on a 2nd gen without a lift. I can't really see why the 3rd gens would be any different.

And considering some still have issues with 285's rubbing on their 2nd gens even with a lift I think your wasting your time unless you want to start hacking up your brand new truck.

Have you thought about trying fit a 275/70r17 on your sport? People, including myself have been able to fit this size on 3nd gens with stock suspension.

Talked with the dealer today. Have decided to go with the 265/70/17. The dealer delivering my truck is going to sell me 3 get one free so going to save $235 over the local tire stores. I love my dealer? Once truck is here late next week going to do a whole post about how good they are an how goog the price they worked out on the truck.

This is going to be a long week waiting on the truck

Which particular tire did you decide to go with?

I have a friend that has these and for such an aggressive tire they ride good and a reasonably quiet ride compaired to many other off road tires

I was going to get the BFG KM2 as my next set, but I think I will try these out. They look good and aggressive and the price is awesome. Lots of good reviews too!

You definitely will be running on UCA, fender and body mount. Even with a 3" lift you will be rubbing like I did. 285/70/17 or 285/75/16 will require cutting on a 3" lift unless you like chewing new expensive tires. If anyone says they don't rub either is lying, have skinnier tires or just drives on the flattest surfaces all the time. If you plan on doing any type of off roading plan on trimming fender flare, body mount chop and hammering seam weld.

Not really , like i said what i trimmed off was the lower part of the fender flare ,just plastic ... it may rub but only if i bumped in something going fast... but other than that its been 3 months with 285's and no issues
