    On their site they have a sample pack of 2, 24" x 48" x 1 1/2" panels for $96.
That would put a 4'x8' sheet around $175-$200.

    That's plain plywood finish.

They have about a hundred finishes available so it only goes up from there.

However, it's strong enough to support your weight so you could buy one panel and be done if you don't want a drawer below.
    So maybe not so bad.

    Subbed...

Love the ideas! Brainstorming... this is high only list of projects. Actually, as soon as I get my cap wired, I'm going to start tackling this. Thank everyone for sharing the many ways that the bed can be converted for camping!

Here's mine. I decided to forgo the drawer system for now, keeping it simple. Total cost was around $150 which includes wood, spray adhesive, stapler (mine broke), staples, outdoor carpet, and 2" full-size memory foam (tucked under at the back to fit my short bed). Haven't used it yet since it's Winter here in Pennsylvania.

Looks good. What is the height from the platform to ceiling?

I put this together a day before I left for a big trip. It started with the fridge needed to stay in place without moving around pulling the power cord out, so I figured I could make a drawer to go along with it. Only used to sheets of plywood so cost was less than $50.

Drawer slides on the bed itself, not the smoothest but stays put when moving around. Fridge is bolted to a sheet to keep the fridge in place while moving and allows me to slide it out onto the tailgate for easier fridge access. Platform is supported by 2 running pieces on each side of the drawer, the drawer itself also acts as support. Behind the fridge is a false door for less used items, another false door behind the drawer for spare parts. Another small sheet is used to cover the end of the drawer when pulled out for a sleeping area, also doubles for a raised counter when cooking instead of having to push the drawer in and out to grab stuff it just stays pulled out.

Not the best looking but after I get home Ill get some pads under the drawer to slide easier, wrap the entire thing in fabric and make it look decent. Its nice to have the fridge running 24/7 now

I had a sleeping platform in my access cab ford ranger and loved it. I have a DCSB Tacoma now and wanna make one. Only thing i had a problem with is I live near the beach and have two dogs. They're always wet and sandy and I usually throw them in the back of the truck. My last platform with carpeted top got gross.

Any ideas of what I could use on top of the platform? Use Tacoma bed mat on top of platform maybe?

    @BrennMan
What cross members are you using?
And, do they support you without sag?

@snwcmpr I'm using 2x10 in the stock notches in the bed. It required a little trimming in order for the top of the 2x10 to sit flush. Sitting flush allows for the plywood to sit flush all around. The 2x10 holds me well although it has a very slight sag in the middle. Adding a support in the middle would prevent the sag and wouldn't pose any problems to the storage underneath unless you have very wide things stored under the plywood. For my use the simplicity of no vertical supports outweighed the sagging. This set-up can be installed/removed in 2-3 min by one person. Nothing is screwed together just set into "place".

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I'll get you a measurement later today. It's not too tall, but enough to crawl in out of the weather and catch some zzzz's.

No idea what model Leer this is. I found it on Craigslist for $400 and just had Maaco paint match it for $300. It's not a tall/camper style cap though. It's about even with the top of the cab. Also a short bed, good thing I'm also short.

Ok. That's the height I would prefer. Just wondering how much room there actually is from deck to canopy.
I say I will use it for camping, but it would.be pretty rare so a tight fit is not the end of the world.

26.5" from the top of the plywood platform to the inside of the cap.
