Nope, I had no idea there was any after market modifications until the truck died on me. Luckily I was in a parking lot when it happened. It took about 5 hours by the time I got the truck towed and got back home from the dealership. The worst part is the truck is ready but I can't pick it up until I figure out who's going to pay the $480 it cost to fix it!

Unfortunately, the dealer is in Arizona and I'm in Texas. I'm going to have to fight them over the phone to get this resolved. There's no way I should have to pay $480 when they never told me it had anything after market installed, ESPECIALLY, when it caused my truck to short out.

They wired in a remote start system and security. Then ripped it out when they sold the vehicle. I've seen it many times.

Okay that blue wire is apparently pin 2 on connector S27. It's "STP1" and apparently the Stop Light Switch signal telling the ECU if the brake pedal is depressed or not.

Soooo probably a good reason it wouldn't start since you'd need to push the brake? Wonder how it was even functioning before unless it came loose?

Wow, so you're telling me that something in the truck did not know whether or not the brake pedal was being used. I don't know a lot about vehicles, but that seems pretty dangerous to me!

I did hit a pothole on the way to where it stopped on me (barber shop parking lot). Maybe that jarred it loose?

I see you eating this cost and fighting this either over the phone or though the legal system because I am thinking they knew nothing of the aftermarket installed stuff....

I think that's where it's going to head eventually. I just spoke to someone in Arizona and their first comment was "it's been so long, how do we know that's how it was sold". I bought it in October!!!

That'd make sense. Once stopped, the truck wouldn't start because the ECU handling the smart key / Push to Start button never saw the brake pedal being pressed.

As Nick suggests, something was ripped out; the wiring was patched up poorly and came loose. That left you stranded.

IMO, I don't really see how there is a lesson to be learned here. If the OP is telling the truth, and i'd like to think he is, there is absolutely nothing he could have done.

He bought a CPO and presumed stock truck, once the aftermarket wiring shorted the truck, it is absolutely the dealer's responsibility to make things right. I would have fought them on principle alone.

The only problem with that theory is that the wires were clipped on the other ends, not the ends that are inserted into the module. Again, I'm not a truck guy so I don't know much about cars, but it was pointed out to me that the wires were clipped on the other end. Does that put a dent in the "wire coming loose" theory?

I agree, I am not saying it's right by any means. But how does the dealer know that something was installed in the truck without ripping the dash out which we all know they do right on a used truck or car? The best outcome can be that the dealer stand behind the truck they sold but I am thinking thats not going to happen...I hope it does stand behind what they have sold.

I tend to agree with this comment. If the dealer in Arizona told me it was a dealer truck, either they lied to me about it being a dealer truck or they ripped out the remote start/security themselves. Either way, shady business practice. I'm going to fight it but I don't see anything happening. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If this is certified pre-owned, you should be able to take it to any Toyota dealership under the pre-owned warranty. Unless they didn't give you a warranty.... Which I'm not sure they are allowed to do if it was certified pre-owned.

I believe the blue wire is part of the engine cert. immoboliser ecu; VC5 short to ground.
