I'm in southern Cal for New Years and went to the Tournament of Roses parade for the first time. We stayed at a hotel nearby and when we parked the car in the underground garage I saw these.

I asked a guy about it, thinking it was part of the parade, but it turns out someone rents the spaces to park part of their car collection. About 150 cars, on several levels, according to the guy. Freakin crazy. I walked around and looked and was surprised to see the windows down on all of them. No real security...

I meant to ask someone, I know literally ZERO about 3D printers. Is all they can print is plastic?

I read somewhere they are trying to develop a printer for the space station so they can fix parts cheaper than flying them in a rocket to them. I just assumed they could print metal parts. :notsure:

There are specialized machines using FDM or DMLS processes that can print metal (aluminum, steel, titanium). The mechanical properties are similar to casting, so it is not a direct replacement for forged or machined parts where higher strength is required.

^^^Thx for the info, interesting. I guess I need to do some research so I can understand the technology better. Not that I have any use for it.

Kind of like how nitro rc motors have no piston rings.

In all seriousness, if the 3D-printed mini-LS3 engine held compression, the electric motor (I guess where the starter is normally mounted :notsure:) might have a hard time driving it.
