Not even close, but still pisses me off. And I wanted to get the hopes up of all my fellow parts vultures.
So, I was looking around Coastal when the PA came on. "Will the owner of the red Toyota please come to the front of the store". As soon as they said that I knew it. Shit, someone hit my truck. Sure enough, there she was. 45 year old woman almost in tears waiting for me to start yelling and cussing at her.
Go outside to inspect the damage thinking she tapped my bumper backing up. Nope. Full on fender to bumper then fender then tire. Tried to open the tailgate to use as a spot to set the insurance papers on. It gave me a pretty good fight, but the latch finally agreed.
She admitted full responsibility (no other option in this instance), plus have a witness who watched it happed. Apparently my truck was bouncing around pretty well.
Bed is offset a little, driver side bedside is twisted, bumper is twisted, flare is cracked, and associated mounting hardware is damaged. Initial estimate was done and came out to $2136.51 not including alignment check. Since it was 100% the other driver, her companies insurance will be handling everything. I'll give them til noon tomorrow to make their initial call to me before I call them.

Was she trying to pull in? Maybe she needs to be in the Asshole parking thread as well...

Yep. She tried to park her tire on mine apparently. I'll put it in the asshole parking thread when I edit the plates and company info off her car.

Thought about it. But tow heavy too often and not 100% sold on the strength of some of the hitches available.

Gonna get the alignment checked tomorrow (free at Big-O Tire) to see if the rear end shifted any. I'll wash it and put it in the garage tomorrow to check out the brackets to figure out which need replacing. I'll also check how far the box is off center and if there is any other damage underneath.
I can get one finger between the bumper and bedside on the pass side. I can get my whole hand between the same spot on the driver side.

Be sure she calls and gives her statement. A lady rear ended me, totaled her car, the week of thanksgiving, she refused to cooperate with the insurance company until the week of Christmas. It does not make a difference if she hit you or not- if she does not make a statement they will not claim liability...

Hopefully she will be better than mine.

Sorry to see the damage, it stinks.. Best of luck.

Yeah. I'm trying to be as nice a possible. I'm going to call her tomorrow morning to make sure she has started the claim with her insurance company. Thankfully her company uses a local insurance agent which I can easily go talk to. I also went and talked to my agent (who is also a family friend) and she took all the info and is ready to process a claim if the other company decides to drag its heels.

Edit: got a call from her at 1700. Said that her insurance company was notified and should be calling me. I asked her to get me the claim number and call me back in the morning.

Don't some bumpers use the factory hitch and mounting?

    :notsure:
I like them, but don't need one. An OE bumper would work better for me in the long run to have less weight on the ass. Still trying to decide on a travel trailer.

Sorry this happened. At least the lady owned up. Too many beat feet. Don't forget diminished value.

Good on you for staying level-headed on this. It was an accident and she owned up to it and clearly feels terrible about it. Best of luck with the repairs.

Yeah, I'm sure if it had been at Walmart I would be filing a hit & run. I guess it's better the side of my truck than someone getting their kid out of their car.

That brings up an interesting question...what IS the actual weight difference between a 2nd Gen stock bumper vs. some of the more common and popular aftermarket types? Wonder if anyone has done the comparisons before?

Video of my truck getting hit. Some reason their video system split the picture, so the impact is on the left side of the screen. I'll put the video direct from the thumb drive later which will not make it sideways. Apparently my phone does not have the ability to rotate pictures or video.
