Well damnit. It was starting and then I hooked everything up perminately and put my tire back on and now it won't start again. Except this time the plunger in the starter doesn't even come out which it was doing before when it wouldn't start..:bananadead:

Recheck your connections and check all your fuses.

Here's what I would do. Take off the battery cable (positive) at the starter and ohm it out between the battery terminal and at the starter. Then turn the ignition on and see what you get. Leave the cable off and do the same on the negative side at the starter. I would expect to see it "open" and then less than an 1 when the ignition is turned on. Once you get those readings we should be able to see what side -negative or positive- the problem is on.

Studying your voltages...they don't add up. Stupid question, are you sure the polarities are correct?

I haven't checked anything except the positive to starter connection and it's getting nearly full battery voltage before and during turning the ignition. It's getting more voltage than it was before.

What voltage do you have on the negative side of the starter when it's off and when the ignition is turned?

Check the large white cable that bolts into the top of the fuse box. By the fusible links.

How do you know the plunger isn't coming out? I mean you can't see it when it's installed, just hear it, but it can be quiet. If you hold your hand on it while someone turns the key, you will feel if the solenoid is energized and the plunger is moving.

And be careful if you remove the battery cable from the starter to test it. If the cables are still attached to the battery, you will short the battery if the cable touches any metal=ground.

You checked the positive cable now check that the ground connections clean and tight.

I have seen ground cables that should have been replaced years ago.

So I was in Mammoth for a couple days and then school just started back up, but I finally got my truck back running yesterday.

It was a simple problem that I didn't catch..one of my clutch start wires was rubbing on my steering column and had basically severed, but still appeared as it was connected somehow.

The reason I didn't catch it was because I had tried connecting the clutch start wires together right where they come out of the wiring harness to bypass the wiring I had run into the cab, but my truck didn't start when I did this...

HOWEVER, that was BEFORE I replaced the battery to starter wire, which was also a problem causing my truck not to start.

So if I had tried again directly connected my clutch start wires AFTER replacing the batter to starter wire I would have discovered the final culprit.

So it cost me $100 at my mechanic..yet another lesson to check, double check, and then check a couple more times.
