I am a lefty too, though only the owner of a Sig P226 9mm...for now :D just need to convince the wife!

Don't own/never shot a shotgun so can't give you any advice on that. On handgun only advice I can give is (and what everyone says) go with what feels best and what you shoot best with (both gun and caliber). If for home def, then I'd factor in reliability however normal cleaning/maintenance should negate that on the major manufacturers.

It's frustrating when your friends 37's make your 35's look like 29's

    Done it. Still love it.

Look at Bar-Sto Barrels. we use their match grade 9mm barrels for our service pistols on the CA shooting team. I had their G23 Match grade conversion 9mm barrel for my G23. Loved it, till I lost it... :annoyed:

I love my .40 shield. My daily carry in summer. Though I'm use to it. It's a snappy friggin round for such a small barrel and polymer frame. Once you get use to it it's fine. But would not recommend it for a first sub-compact.

Yeah I'm leaning towards the 9 now. I'm used to a big heavy 1911 .45, so 40 in a teeny gun will probably throw my aim off way to much. And I don't shoot near enough to get used to it. I want something I can carry around without really feeling it, but when I need it, I won't miss ;)

edit* Not that I'm looking to use it. But it's the metaphorical condom in my wallet.

edit edit* Also the real condom in my wallet IYKWIM. @DCSBFTMFW

Err, I think most departments use .40s nowadays. There was a list I saw where it broke down most popular round by state, .40 had like 26 states majority. I love the 9mm though. Only reason I have .40s is I didn't want to have to buy different ammo and I could bulk buy .40 for all of my pistols. But I will be getting a G19 soon.

I've shot the 9 ( since that's all most ranges have) and it's didn't kick very much for me. I found that there wasn't enough room for my pinky on the grip, but also found out there are extended mags thta extend the grip another 1/2" or so that would help that

I have a 9mm Shield with the extended mag if you would like to shoot it. It's a great gun
