I'm at $300 deductible. So I'm really not sure.

hmm no idea then. May have been a go away quote as I did it over the phone with my work's insurance provider (I work at a dealership). I'll probably end up going to my normal broker so maybe it's different

It's not just the 9 years thats hurting you... It's also the fact you have only been driving 9 years... There is a number (discount) that ICBC applies (mine is 13) each year the longer you have been driving. I pay 2300 a year and this is 3 mil 3rd party liability, 500 deductibles and to and from work within 15km's. It also depends where you live... I saved $20 a month moving form Surrey to Yaletown for example.

I'm already at 43% discount though.

Same province as you, same provider, (probably) same professional designation discount, same truck, one accident. $2,900/year

I'm thinking age/years of clean driving may be the big factor here.

Also multi-vehicle discount households could really play in here. I've got just the one Taco and a motorcycle.

There is more to the insurance than the 43%... you age and years of driving are a factor. If you want to black out your personal info and PM me your ICBC papers I will tell you exactly why yours is higher than as I will compare them. Cheers.

I just spoke with my insurance provider and they quoted me $1800/yr for a 2017 Access Cab V6 Tacoma TRD 4x4 Offroad. I'm 29 year old male, roughly 30k km's annually, multiple car discount, snow tire discount, with one small claim on my 2015 VW GTI.

Now I just did an online quote with my same coverage and information and it drops from $2900 down to $2000.... And now I guess it's time to phone-rage TD.

Does the 15km to work discount still apply if you're registered for 'pleasure use only', or are you registered for work? I could use a few dollars off myself...

I should note that I have collision, $500 deductible, $1M for 3rd party liability, accident forgiveness, and the 5 year replacement cost for the vehicle should it be written off. No glass.

Thanks everyone for the information. I was curious about the 5-seat 4-seat thing because if you look on the toyota.ca website, the Automatic Shortbox (what they now call the Off Road) shows 4 seats, while all of the other models show 5 for double cab. Maybe it was just a website error.

I'm in Southern Ontario - maybe making some trips into the states or out east but mostly staying within the province.

I doubt I'll be doing "extreme" things but it seems to me like that the biggest thing the Offroad has different is a locking rear differential.

More importantly, are there any weekend courses where they teach you how to off-road properly in Ontario?

    Thanks again for the advice.

Mine just went up $25 due to yearly inflation lol. I really don't think TD meloche can be beat...but I miss my $900/year quote I have several years ago while bundling my motorbike.

Do you need to know, or care?
I'd suggest finding some off road clubs in your area and talk to them about some weekend trips or Meet & Greets they make.

Just checked the Cdn Forum. Here's one happening this weekend..

IMHO - Assuming you want a Double Cab, and not an Access Cab - you need to decide the following:

    1) Automatic:

    - you need to decide on whether you need 5 ft (Off Road or Pro $$$$$) or 6 ft bed (Sport or Limited)

    2) Manual: Sport only and only 5 ft bed

You can also get the TRD Pro in the Manual. 5' Bed I believe but gets you a locking rear diff I assume.
