Best Subwoofer Brand?

I dont know much about audio but i want to add a 12" subwoofer on top of my backseat but I dont know which one to get. Also would I have to replace the speakers as well?

PS: There isn't a best subwoofer brand, end of story. There isn't even a best subwoofer. Each application is different as are each owner's tastes which means different subwoofers should be used in different applications.

TacoGuy, what do you want out of your system? What are you hoping to achieve out of adding a sub? To fully answer your questions (except the thread title), no you don't have to replace your other speakers, but then again you don't HAVE to add a sub either now do you? It's all about "wants" and not "needs". Speaking of wants...how much do you want to spend?

I dont want a very deep bass but I want a good pound. I am looking at spending about 350

 

If you don't want deep bass then don't go with a 12" get smaller.

 

Ok cool. Then I think a sealed box will be your best bet. A sealed box is typically smaller than a ported box. Response, with the right woofer, will be exactly what you're looking for.

$350 for the woofer or for the whole Sub, Amp, Box setup?

had 2 10s in my colorado and they bumped like a mofo!

just get a good combo of amp subs and box...most major brands are great

and for a harder hit, get a sealed box..not ported

 

also, is it better to have more ohms? or it doesn't matter?

 

less ohms = more bass

 

Oh wow, I would've thought the other way. Does the box really matter between sealed or ported?

yea big time..its all about the movement of air.

ported= more air movement= heavier bass
sealed=less air= harder hit

 

i have a kicker sub, its cheaper and sits good in the back seat. Sounds good as long as your not trying to wake up the people next door. 10 seconds to take it out if i need to add room for a fourth passenger...

all depends on yous subs..subs can be rated for different amps.
id go into a good audio place and have them set you up..just try not to get effed haha
