So my truck is an '07 4x4....and its coming up on 3 years this June and/or I am at 31,000 miles. Talking to the dearlership I have until the 36k to choose to extend or not. So far (knock on wood) I've had no major mechanical problems with the truck and intend to keep it for another few years at least.

The extended warranty for the same coverage to 100k/6yrs (total, not in addition) is $1500. Is it worth it? Does anyone else have any experience with it and can comment on it?

The use of extended warranties are subject to personal view...
    (I have one myself).
The price you pay can be all across the board. Do a search on this and other forums and you'll find dealerships that will sell you the Extended Warranty for a lot less money. (Full Toyota warranty).

(I'm sorry I don't have any contact information for you at this time :( )

I waited to buy mine til around 34k mile mark. The only reason I went with it was because my truck had some warranty issues prior to the original 3/36 expiring. As Yuma said, I bought the toyota platinum 7/100/0 4x4 plan from a dealer in MA for $875.

Just put your $1,500 in a coffe can and bury it in the yard. If your truck breaks down dig up your money and fix it..... if it does not break down you have a $1,500 saved.
Seriously extended warranties are not a good deal. I was in the auto business for many years so I speak with experience.

I bought a non toyota warranty when I got my truck, needless to say, I cancelled it but still waiting for the refund. :(

extended warranty is something you buy that you hope not to use.
I have bought two nissans for reliability over american cars and never got an extended warranty. I paid the premium now to step up to more expensive toyota for even yet better reliability, that's why I thought it made no sense for me to buy the extended warranty.

people come to message boards usually if they run into a problem, and that does give the impression there is a lot of things wrong with the truck. But I would guess there are a whole lot more owners who do not have any problems that don't even know these message boards existed.

I have yet to see any financial advise that says buying extended warranty for anything is good. sure you will find stories of people who got saved because they got the extended warranty, so its up to you to decide if the odds are in your favor or not.

The coffee can idea works, but so does the peace of mind of a warranty. hahaha, get this, one time i purchased a lexus from this dealership. had an issue with a cylinder, called, made an appointment while still under warranty. Had to drive about 100 miles to the dealership. That put me over on my warranty like 10 miles. The owner refused to honor it issue because I went over the miles specified on the warrenty! pinche culero.... couldnt believe that shit. so yeah... warranties can be good, or bad...

FYI, I just purchased a 8/100k/0 deductible for $880. Tell them another dealer out of state is willing to do it for that price.

If your truck has a lien on it, they will refund the money to the lien holder, not the owner. You will see a credit on the balance you owe.

The warranty is something you buy hoping you never have to use it. I am happy that I have mine right now. In the last 2 months I would have spent over the cost of the warranty on repairs at the dealership. Some of these i could have done myself, but I still would of had to but the parts. Most of them I could not do.

that is correct. and if your warranty is from toyota, you will never get 100% refund. fortunately, mine is a third party and I got 100% refund. I don't have a loan on my truck, its fully paid for and did got all my money back on the warranty.

on my old nissan minivan (running 14 years now), the only thing that ever broke that would use the warranty are very minor things, like the rear wiper (come to think of it, that is the only thing). It started needing a bit more major repeair after 10 years, like both left and right axles need to be replaced, which I did myself. I would still buy nissans because the dealer I use never pressures the buyer to get extended warranty. I went with toyota (and paid the price premium) for the reputation, that was before all these recall fiasco, and now I think tacoma is not even in top 10 lists anymore, or at least dropped lower, I think consumer report's top is nissan frontier now if I am not mistaken.

Dealership in Omaha Nebraska told me today that Toyota was debating extending warranties on 07 and up to 5 year 60,000. Sales person told me so take it for what it is worth.

    took advantage of this offer:
zero deductible, 7 year, 100,000, Platinum Toyota warranty for my Tacoma 4x4
945.00. Not even the dealer I bought the truck from wanted to touch it, said "it was below cost soo you better jump on it" took the their advice.[IMG]
May not be the absolute best price, but for the ease of purchase , absolutely the best buy.
    Thanks Troy

Had the TSB done today and asked about prices. They quoted.....$1600 for 8 yr 125,000 mile Platinum warranty. That's for a '10 SR5 4x4.

No. You must purchase the extended warranty before the expiration of your 3yr/36K mi warranty.

So you can't buy ANY extended warranty after your odometer show more than 36k miles?

After some research i found out you CAN buy warranty after 36k miles although are they worth it? When i bought my truck the dealer sold me one with United Auto Care(72months/75k miles for $1504).
Anyone has any experince with them? I guess i am stuck with them now.
