Being in a rural area about an hour south of Atl, I'd stay here. In-laws have about 70 acres about 5 mins from our house, so I'd head there. There's a creek that flows through the land and plenty of deer and squirrels to munch on.

Ive often thought about what I would do. I work smack dab in Down town Atlanta, and that is a concern for me when it comes to a topic like this. If all hell ever breaks loose, I would seriously doubt I would ever make it home, let alone out of the city, due to grid lock traffic. Hopefully, if civilization will ever goes directly into the crapper, it would be on an off day. And then getting anywhere if you live in the metro area(i.e Marietta) Via a truck/suv would take an act of God. I guess Im honkering down at home for a good while. Wife and I have been trying to build the pantry up for a while. Not even close to where I want it to be though.

Hank did say never leave your house without your 9 or 45.
He also said "a shotgun rifle and a 4wheel drive, and a country boy will survive".:quickdraw:

I had several friends who were stuck downtown Atl. in the snowstorm several years back. It was painful reading their updates as they sat idly on the interstate, eventually running out of gas, cell phones dying. All they could do was sit there, totally unprepared in their cars because they didn't have a blanket or a Get Home Bag. Even the roads in Athens were littered with abandoned cars for days. Our neighborhood exits were blocked by downed trees and power lines. It was so dystopian walking with my roommate to the powered side of town to buy charcoal and food, then make the trek home past abondoned cars and unlit neighborhoods through deep (for us) snow. We had gas heat, range, water, and a grill, so we and our ladies were fine for the 5 days it took until the roads were cleared of downed trees and power lines. It helped having our ladies at the house.

There was a semi-recent article on Jalopnik detailing how the Gov. and military admittedly aren't equipped to deal with urban areas in the event of a catastrophe, or even a "Mega-city." http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/leaked-pentagon-video-about-the-future-of-megacities-is-1788420948 "the Army is currently unprepared. Although the Army has a long history of urban fighting, it has never dealt with an environment so complex and beyond the scope of its resources.” A separate Army study published this year bemoans the fact that the “U.S. Army is incapable of operating within the megacity.”

Thank goodness I don't have to deal with ATL. on either of my escape routes. I'm leaning towards splitting to the mountains because it is closer than home. If I didn't have wife & kids, I'd take the longer trek to the farm.

I'm working all weekend. I hope everyone that doesn't have to be on the roads just stays home.

It's not going to snow :gossip:

They say it every year and it only has like 2-3 since I've been here

For the record, I'm not a "prepper" - I know of this site from backpacking trip preparation back when I was pretty involved with Scouting.

When it snows we just go to our field and break out the fourwheelers and car hood!

I'm looking forward to watching Atlanta freak out again.

I hope it snows up here but I doubt it will. If it does, I'll be out and about somewhere.

Last time we had a big snow here in Athens (6 years ago), I was the only person who could get out of our neighborhood because I had a truck. It was weird seeing abandoned cars in the street everywhere. Several friends cleared off a nearby intersection and made a hockey rink. The corner bar was open, as was the local burger joint, so everyone got lit and had a great time. Meanwhile, we took turns whipping shitties in the hospital parking lot with my truck. We pulled the grill up to the back door of our rental house and cooked on the steps. Power was out so we just stuffed all our perishables in the backyard snow. It was IDEAL.

My buddy was going to UGA at the time. He was in one of the apartment buildings close to campus, like 4 or 5 stories high. A big piece of ice fell off the roof, went right past his window, and crushed a car. Lol. Shitty way to lose a vehicle.

I never understood what the whole eggs, bread and milk thing? Like why not some meat, water and fruit or something. Or shit something that doesn't require power to cook?

But you're gonna need vanilla and cinnamon. But that's a good idea. Maybe I'll make that Saturday

But wait there won't be any bread, eggs or milk left :frusty:
