I'd love to have this over any hypercar as a daily driver. I wouldn't be able to stand the amount of attention you get. I had a lotus elise to drive for a couple of weeks and even that car was too much attention for me.

I have an 08 forester, 5spd manual with winter package. The girl is AMAZING in snow. 70+ mph on i80 with 2-4" of fresh pow, glides, tracks and sticks to the road like a champ. It's the symmetrical AWD. The drift around turns is very predictable and rallying around Tahoe is SOOOOO much fun!

This storm is testing the new Tacoma out. I'm very pleased so far... This is deep stuff too. My forester wouldn't have ground clearance in anything over 9".

My answer to op's question: keep one of each in the quiver.

I secretly love it. Drove Terrel Davis' Gallardo for a weekend which turned a lot of heads.

I'd echo what others have said - tires more than AWD, 4WD or 2WD.

My Land Cruiser is full time 4WD, but without snow tires, it's an unstoppable brick. Unless the snow is really deep, I will roll in a car with snow tires any day of the week over AWD or 4WD.

Here in Colorado, you never see a 2WD car with snow tires in a ditch. EVER. It's the jackasses in 4x4 pickups and SUV's going Mach 1 who don't realize they can't actually stop or turn...

Every major highway in the area here in Southern Ontario is like that.

Here is the vehicle with 3rd row seating that will be replacing the TriBeCa this year...already called dealership locally...it's happening...then they might base a pickup off that. Like I said this isn't small almost the size of a Yukon. They are gonna put a H6 in it.IMG_0005.jpg

Do you need to know, or care?
    It's the same everywhere.

Don't have a pic to share, but daughter showed it to me, her friends F150 completely over on its roof during our 1st snowfall of the year. She tells me it was unavoidable, I laughed and told her that speed flips trucks. Have never seen one flip over for a belly rubbing while standing still.
Their reasoning...had to swerve on highway to avoid another car, slid in ditch flipping it over and back onto road. Nobody hurt but "Completely unavoidable"!!

Friend has a Forrester, and I agree it can handle most situations very well.

It's probably already beed said but, not all AWD systems are equal.

Honda, Toyota, etc have shit so-called AWD that just kicks in the tears once you've already slipped and then turns them off above a certain very low speed. It's not worth the extra weight or cost whatsoever.

All Time Symmetrical AWD with LSDs and the technology to continuously send power to the correct wheels in the correct ratios constantly is a whole different story. 4x4 (especially open diff or even locked) is compete shit compared to Subaru AWD when on slippery conditions like ice.

When it come to plowing through the deep stuff 4x4 is great. But when it comes to general traction and slippery environments AWD is king.

All this talk of Subaru . I wanted an Outback for the wife real bad in Jan, 2015. I could not find a leftover 14 with the non CV trans. and just could not bring myself to buy a 2015 with the CV trans . Also the nearest dealer was a 375 mile round trip so I opted out . I am curious as to how the CV's hold up in the years to come.

yep a few have mentioned it.
and all time symmetrical is not the same with every subaru. the STI is much better than any other subaru from the LSD in each diff

Even when I had my jeep my parents forester was way better in the shit conditions around here.
you'd think being one of the largest cities in north america we'd have better road care but nope. The city is constantly fighting with the contracted plowing companies because they don't plow on time, or don't salt effectively. No even salting just huge blobs of salt not even spread out.
We get a fair amount of snow but its the icing that's a big problem here. We usually get lots of freezing rain and ice storms so lots of black ice.
Good set of tires and the subaru, and its easy to get around. Even with good tires on the jeep it wasn't the best.
But going up north to cottage country where I go sledding (about 3 hour drive north of the city) you have to have 4x4 to get to the cottages. The roads in town are usually plowed as with the side streets in the residential areas, but the little dirt roads leading to the cottage isn't so they're a mess, especially considering the other few cottages that use the same road don't go up all year round so it doesn't get much traffic.

Its pathetic with how many people say accidents were unavoidable. If you paid attention and drove according to conditions probably 90% of all accidents are easily avoidable.

Tires are everything. If I could only do one "mod" to every car I ever own from now on it would be high performance, condition-specific tires. More than any other upgrade, tires matter the absolute most.

However, snow tires on a Subaru are still more fun than snow tires on my Pickup or little Honda Fit :)

I had a 2001 Outback with the 5MT before I got my Taco last year. Ran it in the Winter with Blizzak's, superb for regular driving in the Colorado snow. But it ain't a Taco!
