He's lying. Trailer bake controllers just plug into the kick panel.

But at least he's admitting that they sold you a truck with wiring that THEY tampered with!

Looks like you will have an easy win

And even if he was talking about a 7 pin plug wire job then that only requires one connection under the dash and it's to the brake wire

Posted these earlier in the thread but looks like the blue stoplight switch (brake) wire is connected to the white/black and red wires in the last pic. Looks like they cut it at the butt connector at each end which explains why the wire had a clean cut. Wonder if the pothole the op hit jarred something and caused the butt connector to lose connection?

    From etrailer:
Obviously the specific wire colors will depend on the particular brand of brake controller. The point is to illustrate that the connections seem to match up with what the OP discovered.

I'm glad they admitted to some non factory item that was installed and then removed.

Now you tell them to reimburse you!

Yeah me too. Unfortunately, I won't count my chickens yet, until they finally agree to reimburse me.

    Yep. Especially via text. :)

Typically the risk here would be a shop claiming it wasn't there when they sold it to the customer. That the customer must have installed it later. They've nicely solved that for the OP.

It should be a pretty cut and dry case of getting reimbursed for the repair. *should* be. There's certainly enough ammo if it becomes a fight though.

Brake controller makes sense. When the 16 came out no one knew that the Tundra brake controller sub harness plugs into the Tacoma. It took 6 months for that information to spread There was no help from Toyota to hook up a controller. Nothing in the owners manual to help you either. Take the truck to u-haul or some other trailer sub contractor and you would get a cut in job rather than a plug in connector that didn't exist at the time. No one knew there was a connector in the wiring harness behind the drivers kick panel.

Not all of them,if you don't have the jumper harness people will splice in the wires or if someone installed a used one where it was previously spliced in.We remove them all the time when trucks are traded in and we see them all the time spliced in instead of having the jumper harness.

yeah, would make sense for it to be a brake controller. Been trying to find one that requires cutting the stoplight switch wire but I'm drawing blanks.

hmm...different vehicle but wonder if it's related to something like this. https://www.etrailer.com/question-70945.html

I spoke to the service manager in Arizona. Now their story is that the vehicle was bought from another dealership and whatever module was in there was removed by their dealership. At this rate, it's looking like they aren't going to honor their sale. They had told me it was a service loaner and now their story has changed. RIDICULOUS!

Doesn't matter you bought the truck from them. Have you reached out to Toyota Corp yet?

The dealer you bought it from did an inspection to certify it. The CPO warranty should cover this.

My sales guy made a big deal about how the have to pay for the CPO, I would use the CPO against them.

Time to talk to Toyota Corp since it was sold as a CPO.

Post on selling dealers social media stating your problem and desired solution (pay for the repair cost). Don't rant, be mature and post requesting help. Ranting posts can come later if appropriate.

Also find a news station in the dealers city and see if they have an investigative/consumer help team.

Those azzhats are hoping you'll tuck tail and go away.

    Don't.

I know I could have done mine over the net. I built it on yota dot com, printed it out, took to sales guy and said this is my truck.

Agreed. I went to Toyota Corp and started a case for it. We'll see what today brings.
