I think their goal is the 4th of July each year, using BullDozers if necessary.

If I ever ran a class, you would be instructed on how to use a hook. Basics first. ;)

Yeap. I was corrected on this last week by both Brett's. If the hook breaks the projectile is aimed at the ground not the sky. This is why hooks now have the safety catch. Too keep the hook from slipping off of its connection point and keeping the potential projectile aimed the right direction.

I am sure @BDN has a more complete explanation though.

Ill be honest, I've never used any recovery items other than a strap. Teach us ignorant ones what to do!

A little slow with work, side work, and life getting in the way. I got the trans out this week and are very close to pulling the cab and bed off. I'm taking some pics but it's in tear down right now and nothing very noticeable to talk about. I'll probably start a build thread soon.

    How's the new crawler?

    Major noob question:

I got a tow strap and 2 d rings in the secret santa this year. My truck is stock, so I'm not really sure how to connect it if, say, I wanted to pull another car out of a snow drift. Are the holes on the side of the hitch strong enough for that?

Seems like the hitch insert with the d ring built into it would be the best option, but I don't have that. Is there another way that I'm not thinking of?

What over heard you should do is feed one end of the toe strap into hitch and use a hitch pin to hold the strap through the loop on the end

Should. It'll help keep your carb from gumming up if fuel sits in it for a while

Definitely don't use the holes on the side of the hitch meant for the trailer safety chains. I bent mine doing that to pull a stump in my front yard before I knew better :anonymous:

There are two ends that need to be considered.
If you have a receiver hitch, a 2" strap loop will slip right in and can be captured with the hitch pin. That end is good to go.
The vehicle you recover... make sure if you use the d-ring that the ring itself is attached to the vehicle securely and won't come off unless you remove the pin, you may need a smaller diameter one for cars as their tie down points aren't always 3/4".

If the car has an actual built in hook on the frame, use that with the strap loop only, no d-ring.
