Always keep in mind the kinetic energy associated with a strap. Think about that strap coming loose with a d-ring attached to the end of it and where it's going to end up should the attachment point break. Prolly through your tailgate, windshield, skull, etc...

 

Sounds like strap in the hitch receiver with a hitch pin is the way to go on my end.

I definitely understand the concept of a closed system with the d rings to avoid them flying!

Think of it this way..noob questions mean you haven't f'd up doing it the wrong way first, in order to information on how to do it correctly. So questions are good! I don't know what the hell im doing 90% of the time.

 

Would a strap or a chain be better? Thinking about this is exact situation, just 2 days ago I ordered a hitch insert with the built in D ring and tow chain. The chain has the d rings on it as well. I debated on a chain or strap for a while, but went with the chain because I also have the HiLift off road kit which allows you to winch with the HiLift, but requires a chain. Figured 2 birds 1 stone??

 

Manual f5 the 55-200 lens and 68mm of extension tube. Might back off an extension so i can step back a bit and try the bipod and see if its more just a slight movement. Buuutt why is the stiching look clear.

A strap will be the only thing you want to use for recovery. You can still use the chain for winching with the HiLift.
