Lol, had to go watch it again, short memory.
You can see the strap stretch pretty good on the 2nd pull. I think the rest looks like it does because the road surface was icy and it caused @teamhypoxia 's front end to slide around.

I carry some with me to the desert, but you have to be much more conservative with the wood. It is missed for sure.

There was discussion of carrying the chainsaw and maul with me to Moab this past year, and make a night run up to the mountains to bring a truck load of wood back to camp. Decided against carrying the equipment through our pre-RT trip, otherwise I would have.

Still, there's nothing quite like a nice, large campfire on a cool night in the mountains, it doesn't seem as necessary on a hot night in the desert.

    Honest question....
How would being turned around be easier on the vehicle?

Reverse is much harder on the ring and pinion, being you're on the weak side of the gears.

Add that with the load on the front diff while pulling in reverse.

That's what I was trying to say the strap stretched and his tires were sliding. This is why you warranted it to be ok,,correct? I mean you wouldn't do that in a situation where Eric's tires were on terra firma and had good traction, correct? Like not try to jerk him backwards up sli
Something else I admire I saw in one of your posts....you had fond a stack in that you had left for anyone else to use. Props

never thought about the "weak side of the gears" aspect. makes sense.

not sure about the load on the front diff pulling in reverse (other than the weak side of the gears)

    another honest question....
how is the load on the front diff different pulling in reverse (other than the weak side of the gears)?

I could see that your front end will dip down and put more force on the front...

Like if you were to launch going forward, the rear end will drop and lighten up the front end. Pulling in reverse will do the opposite.

The difference is not much, but there's some there.

I believe I left a stack of cut and split wood at most every campsite I was at this summer. I hope they were enjoyed. There was one campsite I was at that I found firewood I had left the previous year. Added to the stack this year, we'll have to see if it is still there this summer.

Maybe I'm wrong, but seems like there would be more weight on the front in reverse due to acceleration and suspension, putting more load on the front diff than rear. :notsure:

I've seen 6 front diffs go. Two were bouncing on rocks, one was cranked in a turn uphill,,

The other three were in reverse, one reversing an obstacle and two were pulling someone out
