I personally haven't had any problems with my dealership doing work.

However I check as much of it as I can when I pick up my truck.

Luckily he doesn't have to buy the guy a new hood. I've seen hoods get closed on objects and it isn't pretty.

^ Exactly! Get a length of 5/16" ID fuel line and never have this type of thing happen again. Attach permanently with a hose clamp to the oil filter drain port and plug the other end after draining.

Thread title is overly dramatic? I've got a whole different idea of a "ruined" engine bay. You're only down maybe $5 in quarters to clean and a <$32 belt. I say $32 because that is what the gatorbacks are running on Amazon now. 1 hour total work to complete.

That said, I would speak to the service manager and see what he can do to make it good. A cleaning and new belt would be appropriate.

Sharp edges of the oil jug or not, I'm surprised it chewed through over 1/4" of belt.

[soapbox] If you ever get work done by someone else, check it out before you get down the road. Did they put oil in, the cap on, the dipstick back, etc. [/soapbox]

    and change your own oil

I just kept a hose like this with my oil change supplies. Slipped it on when I did changes.

    That works well.

I lost the little hose that came with the truck new. I'm cheap. An empty 16 ounce water bottle fits under the nipple just fine to catch the oil. Just take it out when you're done.;)

    LOL.

1500 miles and never even looked under the hood.

Call me anal, but I check the oil whenever I fill the gas. I also check any service that I have gotten at a dealer before I leave the lot. I even double check the oil level when I change it myself.

I'd ask for a new belt and cleaning, but I can see where there is room for them to deny it. A lot can happen in 1500 miles.

I stick a 20 Oz soda bottle under the nipped when changing oil. Forgot it once.....heard it rubbing as I drove to the store a few miles away and found it when I popped the hood. Oops, but no spillage.

My thoughts exactly. Nothing is "ruined" about the engine bay. A cleaning and belt replacement (in that order, no exceptions) would be a fair resolution.

You drove 1500 miles without checking the engine oil?

Are you serious? Do you check your oil every 15 miles? What a stupid comment to write

I checked my oil last time I changed it. :notsure:

Actually now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I didn't.

I'm confused why you even made this thread? You say your dealership has great customer service and will make it right, then why even post about it? What if your co workers see you made a thread bashing your dealerships techs? And then you call someone else stupid?

back in college I lived in an apartment and whenever I needed to change my oil, I brought all the materials and my truck to the neighboring apartment complex and did the oil change in their parking lot.

I would be pissed, but I doubt that the dealership would do much even if you tell them what happened.
