I was thinking the seal on the bottom of garage doors?

 

The chief complaint I read about that kind of material for this application is that it will bunch up in the gap and over time the glue won't hold anymore. I'm all for generic use materials whenever possible though - they're usually just as good and less expensive.

 

Yeah I'm looking for a frugal way of doing it, I know there are companies and what not which do work the best, but I don't feel like waiting for shipping haha

 

I used this on the inside of an aluminum camper shell and on the inside of a 4runner topper before then fiberglassed over it in both applications to seal it off really well. Didn't actually use fiberglass but rather felt and resin. Then covered that with cheap auto carpet like you find on speaker boxes. Worked great in both cases. Used liquid nails to adhere the foam to the shell and spray foamed all the gaps then sanded all of them smooth. Attached the foam with staples and flat thumb tacks and put bunch of resin over it all working on the roof panel first then the front wall then the sides.

On a side note... where do you buy that cheap carpet? I built my platform in the bed and have been meaning to wrap in carpet..

Wish I still had all my pictures and such from that 4-5 years. Lived where I wanted and worked when there was work doing shut downs and pipe line work. Me and that little truck have seen the world together. Hurricane Katrina came through back home and wiped out everything I owned so I lost all that but I still have the memories.

 

Damn, but hey now you have a really nice truck things must be looking up in some wort of way!


Question: do y'all have a way of locking the shell from the inside when you're in there?

My camper shell has a handle in the inside but no lock. Last time I was sleeping in there I figured out a way to keep the door shut by wrapping a ratchet strap around the handle and securing the ends to the tie down cleats on either side and ratcheting up the strap right until I started to feel good tension. Not sure what other shell designs have in the way of handles on the inside. Maybe it could work for you?

 

I hate the way mine operates. its the slam latch deal on LEER. its cable driven and if you even come close to touching the latch or cable on either side of the glass it pops open. I would kill to have the twist handle with the bars instead of what I have. I cant tell you how many times my toe has opened the back glass in the middle of the night and scared the shit out of me.

 

I almost went with the Inferno color, but I simply love the White. But that IS a beautiful truck you have there.

That sucks man! That would not be the way I'd want to wake up in places where there's sketchy people! Most of the time I'm in the middle of nowhere but last time I was by the border where people cross a lot and while most of them are just trying to make more money with a better paying job you never know who you might run into over there. Hopefully you can figure out a way to latch the door from the inside when you would like to!
