Buy a Fumoto valve like I did. I can install a new belt and change the oil in 30 minutes for about $60 total...I'd hate to think how much the dealer would charge to do all that, plus how long they'd hold my truck hostage while doing it.

Anyone else get the urge to go look at their engine bay after this?

I'd just ask them to clean the engine compartment, and if they don't I'd just do it myself. I wouldn't worry too much about the belt.

Regardless you are an employee , you"re a Customer and you paid for a service, regardless of 1,500 miles , oil changes are 5k miles and none one has a crystal ball to
See a mechanic error mistake leaving crap in your bay.
You must talk to service manager and they must do the right thing and change belt, clean the mess soon. You did not ask for that and mistakes happens but need to be accountability, make dealership to fix it..,, cheers happy 2017

Since you have stated that you have a good working relationship with the manager, I would assume from one good employee to another that he would take care of it. I know if a buddy at my work got screwed over and I liked the dude, I would try to fix the issue as a good employee and buddy are not always easy to find and I would get shit straight for them instead of just acting like it wasn't my problem. Im sure things will work out for ya.

I changed my oil the other night. I did not check the oil when I was done.
I drained it, changed the filter and poured in the new jug of the correct amount. No warning lights have little on my dash.....

I was all set to buy a Fumotive valve for my truck. But when looking at the oil pan and lack of protection I can't do it.
The oil drains straight down (makes it nice to easily place the oil pan when draining) meaning the valve will stick straight down 1-2". There is no skid plate or anything to protect the valve. While I do not offroad I am still afraid of it hitting something.
I can do ALOT of oil changes for the cost of a skid plate.

I check my oil and a general look around the engine bay every other fuel fillup. Maybe a good idea to add to your routine.

I had this happen to me as well at Big Two Toyota. I made them do a full detail inside and out replace the belt and the alternator. I also got them to give me another full detail just for a hassle plus a rental car when they had the truck for 2 days.

That was the ONLY thing that held me back from buying one.

..... and I have a tough time trusting a spring-loaded lever holding my oil in the block, all from trusting a $25 add-on for a $14,000 engine. I still have to get under there and open it, so why not bring a wrench, it's not that much of a burden. :)

I personally trust the valve. I would love being able to simply hook a hose to the end and drain straight in a jug (that's what I do with my lawn mower). I just fear hitting the valve on something.

Deja Vu all over again. The dealership left a drain catch can in my truck last oil change. I found it that day so no damage.

OP, they should fix it right with a new belt and thorough cleaning underhood, maybe a free set of wiper blades too LOL. Plus, you might want to start checking your oil level a little more often. Also, count your blessings (this could have been much worse) and maybe learn to change your own oil, it's super easy.

This is exactly what I do... general inspection, check all fluid levels except transmission fluid which I check about every 3-4 months.

Over the years I have become very familiar with the oil capacity, and I have been tempted to do this many times. But I still can't get myself to close the hood without checking the dipstick.
