I have a 2004 Tacoma. Whenever I drive over the slightest bump, the damn ash tray pops open. Is there a way to tighten this damn thing? I got so frustrated I pulled the SOB out and just threw it on my garage shelf.

I figured I'd buy some double sided Gorilla tape. However, if ya can find out what he did it'd be greatly appreciated.

you should be able to remove it fairly easily

i dont recall what the sliding mechanism looks like but if you remove the tray and then unscrew the bracket you may be able to figure out how to tighten it down

Do you put change in it??? Cause that is what causes it too open like that. after putting all that change in it and all that weight it makes it loose. Same thing happened to my buddies 03, it is always coming open.

I store no change in it. I don't smoke either. It just started popping open over time and it has gotten worse. I'm trying the tape this morning.

I had a 98 4Runner (same dash as the Tacoma) mine did the same thing. Yes it does drive you crazy. Mine only did it when it was halfway full with change. I would just empty out my change and then it would be fine till it got halfway filled again.

I just lined the sides with black duct tape. It's fits tight as hell in there and will not pop open. The tape idea works like a charm! Thanks everyone!!!

I had a 2000 taco that used to do that. I Bent the sides a little to create some friction and never had the problem again.
